first post here, 'lo everyone!

i've read eckhart tolle's "The Power of Now" and was very impressed with the lucidity of the description of ego transcendence. However it centered around the author's theory of the NOW.

I am looking for more good descriptions. i feel firsthand desriptions ought to be better than theories about the nature of the mystical experience, because theories have a tendency to be complex and what i felt was very simple and harmonious, conceivably someone eloquent enough had described it very well already.

in a book on kundalini yoga i foundmy curiosity echoed nicely:

"i have often had the sense that everything i would ever need to know was contained in that hour, and needed only a certain amount of time to unfold its possibilities"

here's a short list of books that seem related that i saw in amazon.com. has anyone readany of them and can comment if it's good?

3. Be Here Now

4. The Book : On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are(supposed to be a classis book on the ego death)

5. Entheogens and the Future of Religion

has anyone got any other lit to recommend? or a good thread here discussing this? an faq on mystical experience on the net perhaps?

my own mystical experience was by far the most amazing thing i ever went through. i want to get to the bottom of this... or as far down as can be had with words )

The doors of perception by Aldous Huxley (i think) is a good book about psychadelics. One of the first too. Im not sure though if it describes ego-loss so much.

Ive never been on psychadelics myself, so i can't describe anything.Edited by: Creeping Death

yeah i've read that, it's nice as a discussion of the visual implication of entheogenics. half the book is a comparison of various fabrics huxley sees while on mescaline with various qualities he describes in fabrics painted by various realist painters.

Alan Watts’ <i style="">The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are” [/i](already
mentioned above) is an easy to read, wonderful book, that takes what often
comes across as a deep complex subject and presents it in a way that seems
simple and even obvious.</span>

A couple more suggestions:</span>

P.D. Ouspensky’s <i style="">In Search of the Miraculous[/i]</span>

Tarthang Tulku’s <i style="">Time, Space, and Knowledge[/i]</span>

"Tripping" by Charles Hayes (the first book listed) is a great book,
especially the introduction and the conversations with Terence McKenna
at the end. I have bought a copy for myself, given a copy to my
tripping buddy from the town that I just moved away from, and I have
given a copy to my parents in an attempt to help them understand me
more. <!--
