Worry that NP will no longer prescribe??
Swim was wondering if they should be so worried that swim may lose their prescription for Addy. Swim has been prescribed the med since August of 07..first script was ritalin, but swim did not respond. Swim went to see the dr for evaluation of poor performance at work, no motivation total lack of desire to do anything. After completing a 3 page evaluation it was determined that swim had adhd/mood disorder. ok,made since to swim since young son had been diagnosed the previous year. Long story short..changed 20mg ritalin to 10mg addy and slowly doc had to increase dose...sometimes this was done in a 2-3 week period but it was fine right cuz it was a change in dosage and ins always paid. But about 6-7mths ago swim began taking more than rx'd and started making appts 6-7 days early.. twice within a 2 week period. But they always wrote it no ?'s asked...when it was too early swim would take to a diff pharm. Well was seen other day, 6 days before my due date and they noticed..started to say would need to come back, but swim said if possible could afternoon dose be raised .with a little hesitation they did and said would not need to come back then for 5 weeks. Then flipping thru chart noticed I was early last month....and swim noticed on swims chart at exit that there was a note for "dr *** please review scripts"
swim cant afford to lose meds right now..they have made such a diff...what advice can anyone give to swim..swim is totally stressed. swim wasnt trying to be illegal..just a few times they wrote it early and swim took advantage of it...does that mean swim is in the wrong. Will they immediatly just drop swim from it..or change..swim so afraid of withdrw...please what does swim say if questioned?? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() panicfan added 4 Minutes and 3 Seconds later... Re: Worry that NP will no longer prescribe??
You dug your own hole. This is what happens when you abuse a controlled substance. If you use up your script early, you simply need to go without it until it's time for your next one.
It is up to the user to watch the date of their scripts, most doctors aren't going to keep track of such things. This means you look at the date your script was filled, and don't go bringing your script in until it's time for a legal refill again. Screwing around and not paying attention to this is going to make it harder to get help in the future. Nobody has needed scripts to be filled early a few times to co-inside with travel plans, and had built up enough trust with their doctor, that they were able to accommodate them. But if nobody had regularly been asking for larger scripts and early refills, then securing a two month supply before leaving the country would have been impossible. So get a calender, and mark off the date you get your script and mark the day it is supposed to be finished, and keep track of this. Also take a break here and there, you should really be taking a day a week off, a weekend a month, a week every two months, free of medication at minimum. Daily use, especially with larger and larger doses, results in tolerance. |

Re: Worry that NP will no longer prescribe??
Thanks for your honest answer. And yes swim agrees to a certain extent that swim should have paid more attention. Swim always scheduled his sons appts four weeks give or take the -2 days. (This is when Insurance will pay for refill). But swim knows that swimcan take this rx responsibly..Swim did for over 8mths..he just took more on one or more occasion to help study for college exams. Swim is a single parent of small kids and works on top of school. Swim just wanted to know should they be really worried..or just that its a warning and to no longer try to get script before 30days!!
How difficult will it be to go to a new physician and get the same MG prescribed?? Will they require medical records or what?

Re: Worry that NP will no longer prescribe??
swiy could just say he/she accidentally took two after forgetting if he/she had already taken a dose. A few days early a few times isn't a big deal; it makes sense to get new scripts early if you don't want to run out, but unfortunately, you're not allowed to accumulate controlled substances at all.
I do NOT recommend going to a new doctor, this would only arouse more suspicion. Only do that for a very good reason. And new doctors should get your old medical records anyway, but what I did the other day was I brought copies of my old scripts (for a controlled substance) with me, which I got from my doc who retired. It's definitely more convincing than just telling someone you've been on a drug, though I think it's perfectly reasonable for prescribers to want to diagnose you themselves before handing out a script. |

Re: Worry that NP will no longer prescribe??
swi My mom is a school nurse program coordinator in a certain county in the USA. she once noticed that a 10 year old boy was prescribed 90 mg's of adderall (or some other amphetamine, heaven forbid they were putting him on desonyx (meth) or dexedrine) and consistantly running out early. she looked into this more and found that the kid was scripted for 90 mg's a day but only taking a small fraction of that. kids mom was dosing the rest. fuckin bitch would use more than 60 a day and and instead of just waiting till the next refil she would steal his. f'ed up, aint it?
yeah, that lady didn't get criminally charged either |
