Muscle Cramps

Recently swim has been using a lot of mdma, both the pure crystal and pill form.

However swim has been getting a lot of muscle cramps all over swims body from this use. The worst affected area is at the top of swims left arm where the muscle will become indented, about 2cm inwards, and have large and small spasms until it goes back to normal.

Is this from mdma use?

Re: Muscle Cramps

Do these cramps only occur when you're on MDMA? SWIM often gets cramps in his hamstrings and calves when chilling out on E, but this is probably from his excessive stretching. This has always been the case since SWIM started rolling.

Re: Muscle Cramps

They mainly happen after. Swim only had about one or two muscle cramps in swims life before using mdma

Re: Muscle Cramps

There are lots of topics about MDMA linked with muscle cramps. SWIM know people who get cramps/spasm during/after MDMA use, SWIM cant tell SWIY why but you could see why MDMA would make SWIYs muscles tighten (like your jaw), maybe SWIY doesnt feel it during the session, but SWIYs muscles might be gurning too.

Re: Muscle Cramps

Make sure you have plenty of salt (not too much though!). Cramps are much more frequent in people that dont eat diets with much salt and so have low blood salt levels. Also could be caused by too little sodium bicarbonate or potassium, which can be caused by hyperventilating by breathing too heavily or sweating a lot. Swim hyperventilated once when he was ill and got a full body cramp, his hands, arms and legs curled up and became tight, and he was left as a curled up ball on the floor! Even his face muslces were pulling in wierd directions. You could be slightly deficient in something, probably a good idea to take some multivitamins and minerals. Zinc and magnesium would be good ones for muscles, they certainly stop some people gurning.

Re: Muscle Cramps

Muscle cramps occur when someone is dehydrated. As such, they are very common among athletes. Ecstasy can contribute to dehydration and therefor can contribute to muscle cramps. Stay hydrated next time and see if it still happens. Swim would also recommend eating a banana. Someone already mentioned that low potassium can cause muscle cramps and a banana can help with this.

Ecstasy also causes muscle tension. This does not help if one is prone to getting cramps. Swim has experienced the same thing after a night of rolling. He once got it so bad that he cannot describe with words the pain he was in. After a night of dancing (and sweating) swim was very dehydrated and resulted on some very severe and painful muscle cramps.
