Question Dizziness on vyvanse?

SWIM was told by her psychiatrist that vyvanse would not make her dizzy like strattera did. While on 120mg of strattera, SWIM would get so dizzy during swim practice, she couldn't finish the workouts. Today was her second day on vyvanse and 20 minutes into the workout, she had to get out of the pool because she was light headed and the workout felt much harder than it actually was . Not only was her head dizzy, but her muscles were too (yes, SWIM knows that makes no sense, but SWIY gets what SWIM means). SWIM is also not feeling these great effects everyone talks about. Her appetite has actually increased and she feels no more focused than she previously was (and yes, she knows its only the second day...). So SWIM's question is, has SWIY ever experienced dizziness such as this on vyvanse? And while on the topic, does SWIY most definitely feel more focused and are aware of the effects while on this medication? What's SWIM to do ?

Re: Dizziness on vyvanse?

Could be symptoms of atomoxetine withdrawal. Did SWIY taper the dose before stopping?

Re: Dizziness on vyvanse?

SWIM is on 50mg Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) and when he gets up off his bed or his couch he gets lightheaded and feels a little dizzy like he is about to fall out.

SWIM was experiencing increased hunger and dizzyness as well as constipation during the first 2-3 weeks on Vyvanse but is now well adjusted to these side-effects so he does'nt notice them as much or has learned how to compensate.

SWIY does'nt feel focused yet? SWIM felt that way too on 30mg Vyvanse but when his pdoc increased dosage to 50mg SWIM immediately felt the change and it lasted all day with no noticable crashes.

What dosage is SWIY currently prescribed?

Re: Dizziness on vyvanse?

Take it you've never been on other forms of amphetamines? Considering 'dizziness' is listed as a common side effect, this isn't surprising.

Eat properly, don't sit in one position for long, don't stand up suddenly, and try not to pass out at the gym. Hold out for a week or two and see what happens.

Potter added 44 Minutes and 25 Seconds later...

Oh, and if you do blackout, eat some bananas and call your doctor. If the dizziness strikes, say when just walking, or when it could be dangerous, also call your doctor right away and stop your meds.

If you do blackout in public, someone may call an ambulance. If you have insurance, this may not be the end of the world, but if you don't and can cost quite a bit (unless you live with socialized medicine, don't know how that works). Tell them it was from the medication you were on and you want to call a taxi to take you home. And do so.

Nobody's old lover once got wrangled onto an ambulance for a brownie related blackout, they didn't do anything but "observe" her and hand her a $3000 bill. Nobody their self was forced to go to an ER from a tricyclic antidepressant blackout giving them a bloody nose, signed a paper to "leave against doctors orders" after having my blood pressure taken and was sent a $1,500 bill.

If ya got a cell phone, add your doc's number into it, just in case.

But yeah, you can get used to it and it'll go away.

Re: Dizziness on vyvanse?

Even though SWIM knew better, she actually didn't taper off the straterra and instead stopped it right away. But it was strange since straterra has never caused dizziness for her before. The doc said it could have been because the dose was increased and it was reacting bad with the zoloft.

SWIM is currently on 60mg vyvanse, but yeah, not really feelin' different. There was a moment on the first day that she got very zoney and everything around her got hazzy except for what she was concentrating on. That was really a cool feeling actually, but that was it...she hasn't noticed anything but the dry mouth and increased hunger. In fact, 4 hours after taking it, she even took a long nap. SWIM is wondering if she will be one of those people that responds better to the L-isomer instead of the D-isomer, and would be better suited for adderall. Does SWIY think adderall would make one even dizzier since it hypes one up more than vyvanse? She left a message for her doctor, and she is not on it today so she can make it through practice later.

This is SWIM's first aphetamine. She did expect side effects, it is just frustrating how much her ADD has managed to get in the way of everything in one form or another. She doesn't want to have to keep getting out of the pool to prevent passing out because as cool as the coaches have been about it all, eventually, they are gonna be like, ''what's the problem now?'' SWIM thinks maybe she can take it easy during practice while her body adjusts because taking time off from swimming and then getting back into it is just plain brutal ...lemme tell ya! Considering that competitive swimmers at Stanford were using amphs to make them faster, SWIM is thinking that throughout time it is possible the body will just ''get used to it'' and everything will return to normal?...but since SWIM has no previous experience with amphs, shes hoping that is a reasonable thought. Swim would just like to be able to take advantage of the effects academically, but still be able to manage athletically.
****
Thanks for all the SWIY's help! SWIM knows she's a pain in the ass sometimes-lol....this is all definitely appreciated!

Re: Dizziness on vyvanse?

SWIM's doctor changed her prescription from 20 mg adderall xr to 30 mg vyvanse last week. The first couple of days she felt depressed and moody. Vyvanse doesn't help her concentrate at all so she is taking 2-3 30mg vyvanse a day so she can concentrate a little better, even though that's not the dose her psychiatrist prescribed her. SWIM goes to school and needs to be able to concentrate. She is planning on calling her doctor and telling him to switch her prescription back to adderall.

Also she does experience more diziness on vyvanse than adderall.
