Smoking - Chore boy style pipe problems

We dont have acces to a straigt glass tube often here in the uk.
When swim in london everyone uses a 50ml jinature brandy bottle as its easy one to make a hole in the bottom.
When swim uses a pan scourer, like chore bou but not brass.
Swims rocks seems to end befie he expects, given the same amount on an ash pipe.
Swim wonders if the steel style chor boy as whats wrong, or if he is trying to smoke to quick pulling the nice stuff into the bottle?
Swim has been with people in london and they load the pipe with lqage bit of rock and it will hold it in the chor boy thing and toke later.
Swims rock just diapears fast and cant get another hit from the pipe.
