My Detox

Hey Guys...
SWIM has been trying to kick my habit for 4 days. in that time he has used approxomately 5% of the H he would normally smoke in that time. he has plenty of Librium and support at home. What I want to know is this...

Has his fractional use of Heroin in the last 4 days seriously ruined his chances of kicking this crap?

Appreciate some advice here people!

Thanks

James

Re: My Detox

For some, a reduction is the first step. Patient X has tried tapering etc - it was only when he realised he had been "tapering" for 6 months that he realised tapering was never going to work, as sooner or later he would decide to have a little party as a reward for tapering or reducing (well, what would be the harm since he was clearly good at tapering?!) - sooner or later he was back to maximum use before another week or two of useless tapering

So it depends on SWIY - 5% of normal use is a start, but that should come down to 0% next in Patient X's humble opinion.

Wish you the best of luck!

Re: My Detox

No, Jimmy, you haven't ruined your chances, but what using 5% of your usual H dose will do is extend the period of withdrawal. My cat cut down from 225 mg of methadone to 5mg (admittedly fairly quickly), and thought "Ah....that's 97.78% of the problem solved, only 2.22% to go. That will be easy", however it wasn't! For details see my "Screaming in the Night Air" thread in this section. But I got through, and am 7 weeks away today, so you can do it to! It's tough, but it needs to be tough for you to get the "big pat on the back" at the end of a week, two weeks or a month! Yep, there's the whole rest of your life to think about, but that's not today's problem.

There's a lot of good stuff going on at the moment on DF (that's Drugs Forum if you're not up on acronyms) when it comes to opiate detoxes. Seems like a lot of us are fighting, and some of us are winning! You're SWIM has Avid's Patient X to wile away the 23 1/2 -24 hours you will no doubt be awake for for the next few days with. Richard Smoker('s dog) and I (or is it my cat - I never remember who's who when I'm not self-incriminating) are both over a month away from bad things. He curses me because I sleep, I curse him because he's got energy!

It's all good fun! Best of luck, and for God's sake talk to people if you feel weak(send me a pm if you want to, or find someone else you like and can trust if you don't want to post in public). It can happen, even to the "tough guys" on here.
