are opiates and benzo's supposed to cause recreational effects at prescribed dosages?

swim has noticed that many people take larger amount of opiates and benzo's than what is prescribed to them. clearly they do this for recreational effects.

but dont prescribed dosages provide a mild recreational effect?

and once a person HAS taken a larger amount of opiates or benzo's, does the normaly prescribed theraputic doses do anything for them(assuming there is no tolerance).

what swim is trying to say is this: lets say a person likes to get high off of recretional dosages. and then lets say the person doesnt do this enough to get a tolerance, does regular prescribed doses ever do anything for them? for example lets say a person takes 20mg of oxycodone as a recreational dose ONE TIME. and then next week they get a headache and take a regular 7.5mg of oxy. after experiencing such a higher dose before would 7.5mg ever seem satisfying again?

or are pharmaceticals in general only used to get high on much higher dosages than what is prescribed? and the prescribed doses of pharms only used to treat an ailment producing only a mild high? it just seems like people who get high off these pills at very large doses, how could a normal medical dose ever seem satisfying again or even helpful in a medical sense even without a tolerance.

Re: are opiates and benzo's supposed to cause recreational effects at prescribed dosa

in SWIM's experience, tolerance that built up was one factor for taking more than prescribed, but the main reason why he would take more than prescribed is because the effects of a higher dose were more euphoric than the lower, prescribed dose

Once SWIM felt the effects of say 20mg of oxy vs 7.5mg, which one felt better to him in terms of euphoric and opiate high? of course the 20mg did. the 7.5mg did provide minor euphoric results but nowhere near say what 20mg would do so SWIM would just stick with taking 20mg of oxy again to feel those same effects and then by keep doing that, addiction can settle in fast especially with opiates.

Re: are opiates and benzo's supposed to cause recreational effects at prescribed dosa

Your swim could potentially get high off a prescribed dose of any benzo or opiate if they had no tolerance at all. When swim was 16 swim had wisdom teeth removed and swim was prescribed vicoden and its the first time swim can recall feeling that pain pill good feeling. Now swim couldn't get high off a vicoden unless it was a really high dose. Swim is also currently prescribed .5 xanax 4x a day as needed but swim generally only takes about 2 per day. Benzo's just make swim sleepy in high doses not that euphoric feeling she likes from opiates so swim does not even care to over take the benzo's. Anyway that is just swims experience other swims may feel different.

I would say: Opioids, no. But Benzos, not really "recreational", but psychoactive is more of the word.
