Quick question on codeine and grapefruit juice.
SWIM has acquired a bottle of generic for phenergan w/ codeine.
He also has acquired 30 lortabs and has been using the grapefruit juice trick to get the most out of his tabs (which works wonderful btw, SWIM drank 8 oz. of grapefruit juice 30 minutes prior to taking a couple tums, 50 mg of diphenhydramine and half his usual dose of hydrocodone and felt WONDERFUL!). He is aware that grapefruit juice does the opposite with codeine, it hinders conversion of codeine to morphine in the liver. To get to the point of his question, how long should he wait after he has consumed grapefruit juice to take codeine so that the juice is out of his system and doesn't interfere with his liver converting said codeine to morphine? |

Re: Quick question on codeine and grapefruit juice.
That is a good question. Swim would personally say that a few hours to a day are plenty time. It depends on individual body chemistry and stomach contents.
Does Swiy feel like euphoria is increased from GFJ? Please make sure to share your findings! This is very relevant to Swim's opioid research. |

Re: Quick question on codeine and grapefruit juice.
SWIM will not be taking any of the codeine until he runs out of lortabs. He will probably wait 12-24 hours after drinking gfj to consume the syrup. He will also be sure to let you know what happens. And to answer your question, the gfj easily let SWIM squeeze a few more hours out of the tabs. Diphenhydramine is a good potentiator as well, and tums helps lower the ph of your stomach from the juice for better absorbtion.
Also, on the bottle of generic phenergan w/ codeine it does not say how much codeine is in a teanspoonful. Anybody know how many mg are contained in a tsp. |

Re: Quick question on codeine and grapefruit juice.
GRAPEFRUIT JUICE DOES NOT INHIBIT CODEINE'S CONVERSION INTO MORPHINE
This is a common misconception that's been going around for a long time.Parcelous tried to clear it up by writing this in all grapefruit juice threads. Grapefruit juice actually does not interfere with codeine to morphine conversion at all but potentiates the effects of codeine by inhibiting the enzyme that metabolizes codeine into inactive compounds, therefore, leaving more codeine avaliable to be metabolized into morphine. This combination should be used with caution when using CWE codeine since the enzyme that converts codeine to inactive compounds is also a major metabolizer of Acetaminophen/Paracetamol which could result in toxicity if the dose is high enough. GFJ can work up to 12 hours after drinking it so don't worry too much about the timing.Swim thinks drinking it 1 hour before taking the codeine would be good. Robo. |
