Experiences - ash on crack-pipe?

SWIM uses a water-bottle to smoke crack on usually, with a tube in it of some description. SWIM has noticed a few times that the ash she uses on a pipe seems to make a difference to how it smokes. For example if the ash has come from a hand-rolled cigarette (so like Golden Virgina tobacco for instance) the pipe doesn't seem to smoke as well and the hit won't seem as good. Ash from manufactured cigarettes (Marlborough for instance) seems to work much better. SWIM wondered if this was just a psychological thing but SWIMs boyfriend agrees with her and he won't use ash from hand-rolled ciggies on a pipe. SWIM thinks it has something to do with the density of the ash....Has anyone else noticed this or is SWIM just barmy??!

My guinea pig Thomas has read this and suggests that the chemicals used on the manufactured cigarette create a less dense residue (i.e. the ash). He says that rollies using loose tobacco tend to have less of these additives, and thus denser residue (again, the ash).

IOW you are on the right track, according to Thomas.
