Swim has been on klonopin for a little over a year. Swim likes that it takes care of his anxiety issues, and swim is not interested in getting high in any way off of his anxiety meds. But he hates how it makes him lazy and is interested in a more mild benzo, such as Librium, swim hears in the normal dosage it eleviates anxiety but also doesn't make you all lazy and out of it. Anyone know anything about this? Or about any other benzo that gives you the relief without so much of the side effects?

Re: Librium. Chlordiazepoxide
i recently got out of detox and i was on Librium during my stay to help with dt's. Librium makes me tired, klonopin in which i am prescribed to 10 mg a day does not in any way make me tired.

Re: Librium. Chlordiazepoxide
Librium produces fewer "abuse worthy" effects, and is less recreational, although still has potential for being so. It's one of the oldest benzos, and not the best.
Swim personally has never had problems with benzos and being tired except at high doses, or when Swim already has sleep issues or lack of sleep. Make sure to get lots of rest while taking a benzo. It can help with the associated fatigue/tired feelings. |

Re: Librium. Chlordiazepoxide
SWIM's marmoset definitely is better off using clonazepam as opposed to chlordiazepoxide. Chlordiazepoxide seems mild due to it's relatively short half-life, however as the accumulation of active metabolites (which linger in the body much longer) build up, the effects become more pronounced. SWIM's marmoset began taking chlordiazepoxide for anxiety, and initially decided that it was not effective, but after about a week reported the onset of an overall benzo feeling.
Continued use was effective for this marmoset only when a regular dosage schedule was kept, however the problem was that it was not a good solution for her acute anxiety issues, as it could not be taken on an "as needed" basis and be effective. The residual effects of the regular dosage schedule left several undesired effects such as slight loss of coordination and memory impairment. The marmoset switched to clonazepam, which did not manifest itself through the build-up of active metabolites and found that it was quite suitable for "as needed" use for acute anxiety. No unwanted side-effects were noted and it proved effective at releiving symptoms of anxiety. Clonazepam could be taken only when onset of symptoms occured, as opposed to chlordiazepoxide which needed to be dosed regularly to maintain a high enough level in the body to be effective. To swim's knowledge, clonazepam does not have any active metabolites, while chlordiazpoxide has several. So, between the 2, in the case of SWIM's marmoset, clonazepam was by far the most effective, with the least amount of side-effects. The big difference in SWIM's opinion was that the clonazepam effects were more immediate (and short-lived, wearing off about about 6-8 hours), whereas the chlordiazepoxide effects resulted more from build-up of active metabolites (after several days) which was not desireable as she did not wish to be under the influence of benzodiazepines 24/7. So far, SWIM has found clonazepam to be the most effective benzo for treating physical symptoms of anxiety with the least amount of noticeable side-effects. This is taken occasionally, once a day at the most and not used everyday. The marmoset will also mention that clonazepam does seem to have a higher abuse potential than chlordiazepoxide, but is still very low in comparison with other benzodiazpines. |
