Effects - Does meth REALLY last 12 hours?

The media constantly stresses the long-lasting nature of meth. My friend Swim has been snorting and/or smoking almost daily for about a month, but has slept every night (with varying success).


Swim told me that meth's euphoria doesn't last 12 hours, but rather only about 3-4 hours sometimes less. Swim definitely felt speedy for at least 12 hours, but needs to re-dose after about 3 hours in order to get back to a euphoric state.

In fact sometimes swim would become edgy and sort of depressed and even (paradoxically) tired 3 hours after dosing. He still felt quite speedy, and had no doubt that he was still "on meth." That's why swim doesn't think he has inferior speed. Swim noticed this happened at the beginning of his use, although it did get worse the more days in a row swim used.

Is this normal?

Swim noticed that some posts in this forum say that a fairly regular dose of meth has kept some users up for days without re-dosing, even when smoked or injected which are the two shortest-acting methods.

Swim also forced himself to eat fairly regularly--maybe 70-80% of his normal diet--and actually ate considerably healthier than normal because he chose to only force down those foods which would be best for him. He also took a serious multivitamin "Jamieson Power vitamins for Men" 3 times per day (as per the instructions). They contain "potent herbs, energy foods, active enzymes and minerals" (there are too many to list in this already-long post). Is it possible that these vitamins contained something that is causing this effect for swim?

actually, swim just told me that he remembers that the euphoria lasted longer on those days when he didn't have enough meth to re-dose very often, and so spaced out his doses or only took one dose for the day.

The euphoria of the first dose actually lasted longer when he didn't re-dose. Was this because swim tricked himself into enjoying a dose more because he knew he wasn't going to be able to have more in a few hours? Or is this a result of some sort of tolerance mechanism?

Perhaps the "long-lasting" nature of meth (at least the euphoric aspect) is just overblown by the media? Any insight or experiences to shed some light on this for swim?

Nearly everything related to drug use is way over exaggerated by the media. Just for the simple reason to strike fear into the uneducated masses.
Swim has done many 12 hrs. plus many times on a single dose. But as the hours awake turns into days, he has to re-dose on a 5-6 hrs basics.

Yea but that's the thing, swim slept every night. He said sometimes it was a weird sleep that was really not restful. He would take a while to fall asleep but he eventually did. But when he opened his eyes to look at the clock it was time to get up for work, but it felt like no time had elapsed and he hadn't slept at all. A few nights he got a solid sleep due to tiredness. But the point is swim made a point not to binge, and never stayed up binging for 24 hours straight. and it even happened the first day ( he kept re-dosing tiny bumps)

and does swiy feel euphoric for 12 hours plus? or just speedy?

It all depends on Dosing swiy....See, swim used to smoke 3 hits every 2-3 hours (every break at swims work lol, people began talking....or mabye just the shadow people lol!).....Back to the point, Swims smoked his 3 day stash in 1 night....swims stash usually is smoked periodically 2-3 hits every 3-4 hours to maintain a 3 day constant euphoria....Swim finished 35 hits in 1 sesh....Swim stood up for only 2 days, but he was higher than god, he locked himself in his room never leaving, he even pissed in an empty bottle cause he was afraid of anyone seeing him THAT spun.....He lost all control, video games for 16 hours straight (swim didnt even get past the first level lol!), masturbation for about 7 and the rest was on the carpet.

The euphoria lasted all 2 days! Swim had zero need to redose, he just passed out and woke up 6 hours later with weed scattered all over his bed. With no tolerance though, swim would be "spun" for 1-3 hours, "high" for 2-3 hours, and just "awake" for 4....so basically 7-10 hours...the last 4 swiy doesn't really feel high at all.

The actual high only last a few hours as you stated, however SWIM can feel the drug working on him long after the high is gone.


When taken orally meth to swim has had durations of 15 hours +... the real high still only lasting a few hours.
