GHB as a sleeping aid

From what I hear a high dose of GHB is guaranteed to knock you out. Sounds like an excellent way to get to sleep when your restless but need to get a good nights sleep so you can go to work/school. The only sleeping aids I've ever tried were melotonin and valium and neither had any effect. In fact valium seems to have a counter effect on me it makes me restless and energetic.

Does GHB really put you asleep without fail every time you take a high enough dose?

Re: GHB as a sleeping aid

Pharma GHB is marketed as Xyrem. It is prescribed for narcoleptic patients who suffer from daytime cataplexy. They take 4.5g twice a night 365 days a year.

4.5g will induce a quality slow wave sleep cycle for about 4 hours.

When they wake after the first dose, they take a second 4.5g for another four hours sleep. This gives them their total 8 hours of exceptional sleep quality, something that is missing from these types of patients normal ability. This has proven to give a dramatic reduction in daytime cataplexy attacks.

Taking 4.5g will make the patient fall asleep within about 20 minutes to half an hour. Sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on their physiology.

Contrary to popular belief, it is still perfectly possible for the patient to be roused from their sleep, although they may feel a certain level of intoxication.

Upon taking a 4.5g dose, the patient could try and stay awake against the natural effects of the drug, this will lead to growing levels of intoxication which will eventually lead to sleep.

The much hyped unrouseable "coma" state that often hits the headlines is usually as a result of the user having ingested another CNS suppressor, such as alcohol. It shouldn't have to be said but GHB should never be mixed with any type of CNS suppressor.
