CWE very cloudy, what could be wrong?
Extracting Co-Codamol I have filtered the solution twice now through a Sainsbury's own brand coffee filter (UK) at a temperature of 1 degrees C (measured) and both times the solution has come out incredibly cloudy
I have read of others having success with this filter so what could be wrong? Would rather not flush 3 hours of effort down the toilet, literally...discodave added 1 Minutes and 44 Seconds later... SWIM posted the above text. I told him that he should not use I on the forum but he says he forgot. I'll keep SWIM away from the computer from now on... Last edited by discodave; 03-07-2008 at 20:21. Re: CWE very cloudy, what could be wrong?
I don't think it would be a good idea to use this, it doesn't sound like it has been filtered properly and from what i know the solution should be clear if not close to it. Have a look at the solid that has been filtered out and compare it to the amount that was started with. That said, it will be hard to judge the amount left in solution and i think it's too much of a risk to use it on a guess.
Personally i would not use it until i was satisfied that the majority of paracetamol had been removed. All i can suggest is to get better filters. That said, i should say that i have very little experience with Cold Water Extractions so some one else that has more experience in this area will be in a better position to give advice. |

Re: CWE very cloudy, what could be wrong?
SWIM threw it away, better safe than sorry. In the past SWIM had success with those filters, SWIM has seen others post about using them too. Maybe they changed the filter? Anyone recommend any good filters you can get cheaply in the UK or on the interweb for the UK? Maybe SWIM should have bought lab filters... which lab filters are cheap and effective?

Re: CWE very cloudy, what could be wrong?
Swim wishes he was in the UK with access to codeine
![]() Swim filters all types of opiate pills with regular coffee filters, and never had a problem, always clean clear results. Perhaps try with different filters (coffee should be fine), or perhaps Swiy is getting some kind of filler coming back in the solution. Swim would taste it to see if any of the nasty undesirables were in it. Swim can distinguish if any was in by taste. |
