Combinations - What not to take on 5-HTP

Swim is thinking about ordering up some 5-HTP but with all these serotonin syndrome possibilities he'd like to ask what are some things he'd be better off avoiding while taking this.

Avoid SSRI's and MAOI's.

I've heard that Alcohol doesn't go well with 5htp same for GHB/GBL.

It probably would be wise not to take it with anything that affects the GABA and NMDA receptors.

Unless someone else has tried otherwise with positive results?

5-HTP is not a drug. It's an amino acid naturally found in food, and it metabolizes into serotonin. It's hard to overdose on this since your body has a limit on how quickly it can metabolize things. Similarly, it doesn't really interact with anything since it's chemically the same as eating a block of cheese.

What to avoid? Anything that screws with your natural serotonin metabolism. I would expect SSRI medication to be safe, but MAOIs are definitely dangerous.

5-HTP just helps your body produce more seratonin. I would think SSRI's and MAOI's are bad, might lead to seratonin shock. They are good to take right after an extacy come down after you eat, or right before if you want to roll harder, though!

is it safe to use tramadol and 5htp also i take mirtazipine at night safe or not?

Be careful with tramadol. it can makes people have seizures.
