is this wrong?

swim sees a doctor who usually prescribes T4s. they help a little, but not totally. SWIM was in a car accident and had serious damage done to their knee. surgeries were needed, with months of PT and wearing a brace. Swim usually gets a 10-14 day supply and ends up going in every 2 weeks for more. which is getting annoying i am told. swim is still in pain, and now has back and neck pains.

well. the T4s dont work that great and swim already was told pretty much he will not give swim hydrocodone or stronger. If swim was to go to a walk in clinic or another doc and complain of pain, Which swim really is in, and try to get a script for something stronger..is this illegal? swim already has switched docs once because he would not prescribing anything to help with pain.

Swim may need to go to another doc or try Pain Management which the doc suggested. just seems like more work. but may be whats needed for relief.

Re: is this wrong?

A reference to a doctor who specializes in pain-management would be the best recourse for a SWIM in this situation. They should know of methods other than drugs to help SWIM's suffering. Physical therapy, meditation, bio-feedback, to name a few.

Good luck. I hope SWIM feels better soon.

Re: is this wrong?

well swim has tried many diff medications. only the stronger stuff helps. swim sometimes get the feeling the doctors don't believe my friends problems. swim has been in PT for 2 months now. swim doesn't want to be labeled a drug seeker though. swim also gets migraines, and back pain that makes it impossible to move at times. swim hates the way doctors will stereotype when it comes to prescribing.

any opinions?

well swim went back to the doctors today and ended up with vicodin and lyrica. which swim hopes helps. The docs not so bad. swim has to get some blood tests to check for some things. and start a PM possibly.

Re: is this wrong?

This thread may help someone else in the future as alot of members or people in general are in the same postion as swiy. Panthers pretty much nailed it by suggesting pain management as the best course of action. That said if you feel that the doctor is not handling the management of your pain properly or is incompetent you have every right to find a competent doctor, even if it takes awhile to find one. Its hard to find a Family doc who understands or is comfortable long term opiate therapy for chronic pain. Pain management docs deal with the problem all day, every day so theyre better equiped to handle it.
