Buproprion HCl Interactions

I was wondering if anyone knew what/if any interactions bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban) has with illegal drugs.

Re: Buproprion HCl Interactions

Bupropion (one 'r') is related to diethylpropion, which is marketed as a diet-pill under the trade name Tenuate. Tenuate has a good underground market as it acts like an amphetamine, complete with euphoria. Bupropion lacks the euphoria of it's cousin, for most people, but it has the same pattern of CNS stimulation. As such it should not be taken alongside another CNS stimulant such as, but not limited to, amphetamines, cocaine, dietrol, etc. Also it would be inviting a heart-attack to mix this with dextromethorphan.

Re: Buproprion HCl Interactions

However some head-docs treat ADHD types that are not responding well to stimulant amp therapy with buproprion but the dose of dexedrine or adderall is not recreational and the dose of buproprion low (150 mg SR/d).

This was trialed to stop ADHD teens from smoking while on stimulants. I dont know if it proved a success but I dont think anybody was fucked up by it. Buproprion seizure threshold lowering antics appears to be the same as SSRI's when taken at an on label dose (max 300 mg in 24 hours etc).

There is a medical arguement on long term amphetamine type stimulant therapy (ie ADHD) that a small dose of a DNRI (ritalin SR or buproprion) prevents the dopamine drain and neurotoxicity that the amps engender by themselves. Though this is disputed in medical circles at present.

If one imagines the synapse to be like a wash basin the amp type stimulants are the water on tap and the DRI or DNRI drugs like coke, ritalin, amineptine and buproprion are the sink plug be it a leaky one (leaky according to dose, higher dose equals less leaks). One doesnt want the basin overfilling and the water on the floor as that spells problems like seizures, hypermania, physcosis, hypertensive crises etc

We all have sinks at different sizes/capacities, different size plug holes and water on taps and water pressures. I repeat this anology from my head doc words...

So as usual it is a combination of person and dose.....
