Health - Strong Family History of Psychosis: LSD Use OK?

I'm planning to use LSD for the first time ever, but I'm having doubts due to "bad trips" and "psychosis episodes"

I researched alot about it on the net, but you get the best info from people who actually use it, not scientists who test it on rats or people wanting to trip for free!

anyway, I have about 3 uncles with schizophrenia, and my mother and brother have multiple personality disorder (basically mood swings lol) but I do not show signs

I went through a shitty time in my life for a few months and my head was messed up and I would have random thoughts of killing people, but now I have stopped all that and have pre-occupied my mind with philosophy, which is one of the main reasons why I want to try LSD. My "bad thoughts" have completely stopped, but I sometimes think about killing people I see on the news who gang rape children (but what normal human doesnt think that?)

should I go ahead and do it? or should I not risk it incase I do something stupid? I will be doing this by myself, and plan to stay in my room for the whole time

also, is there any risk of being "fried" after dropping acid?

I'm really excited and wanting to do this badly, all advice, comments, tips, tricks and whatever else is welcome!

sorry I just learnt the whole SWIM thing, there is no law against this type of stuff in my country so I never really worried about it, if you want to delete this thread SWIM can re do it since there is no edit button!

SWIM wishes he could only encourage you to go forward with this, as an LSD experience is (can be) an invaluable experience, especially for an individual such as SWIyourself, who is into philosophy and likes to think etc.

However, with such a family history... in SWIM's opinion it's just a bit too risky. I'm not concerned that you might go out and kill someone, because if you've consciously limited yourself to your home, I'm pretty sure that's where SWIY will stay (hide your shoes if you have to). I'm not too well-informed about LSD's effects on the psychee - the harmful effects anyway - but obviously every mindaltering substance has a potential to do harm. And to add your proneness to mental illness, I'd have to say this is something swiy has to decide, if you feel you're mentally strong enough, and are sure of it after careful contemplation - yes, go ahead and if all goes well, I'll be happy for you .

If not, do not go through with it. There are some other ways albeit not as powerful as LSD, to acheive a psychedelic state of mind - meditation being one of them. If you decide not to try LSD, you could look more deeply into that.

Offtopic: Just for conversation's sake (though it isn't the correct subforum), what area(s) of philosophy you interested in? Or what philosophers do you stand by? Maybe we have some same interests/beliefs .

With that kind of family history and personal history, SWIM would advise you not to use LSD..if SWIY is going to anyway, he should make sure he's in a good state of mind beforehand to avoid a bad trip. He shouldn't decide that no matter what he will drop acid on a specific day, but rather wait until he's in a contented, happier state of mind. if SWIY is pissed off, upset, or just feeling a little down then he would be risking an unpleasant trip, although this isn't always the case

SWIM's family mental history is kind of shoddy, only a few of SWIMS uncles have a mental health problem and they were heavily into drugs such as speed and heroin, SWIM has never touched anything outside of Marijuana, SWIM a big supporter of Marijuana and its legalization and SWIM does smoke ALOT and has had no mental issues. SWIM planning to take a psych test because SWIM wants to go to the army next year also, but mainly to see if SWIM has a mental illness SWIM should worry about in case SWIM shouldnt do it

is it true that writing on a piece of paper that SWIY are only tripping helps SWIY come down from a bad trip?

to be quit honest, SWIM is in a perfect mind state, thats why SWIM have decided that SWIM should take advantage right now and do it this once and only once, SWIM haven't decided on a set day

for someone who cant swim in water I can certainly SWIM on the internet

If swiy wants to err on the side of caution, just avoid psychedelics.

However, if swiy is determined, make sure:

1) SMALL DOSES... "heroic" doses are probably more likely to bring out the bad traits, and when they do come out, they'll come out with a vengeance.

2) Swiy needs to be in an extremely happy mood, with lovely people and in a safe comforting environment. Swim would reccomend this to anyone, but it is especially important to swiy. Make sure there is no possibility of being disturbed by things you don't want, or having to function as a sober human being.

do it. just be in the right mood, and even if one thing doesn't feel right that day or you second think it, just dont do it. Trust yourself and relax, SWIM is sure SWIY will be fine.
