2 month break from all drugs as of 30/03/08
As of sunday swim has decided to take a 2 month break from any form of narcotics.. this means cigarettes, alcohol, stimulants, downers, etc.
Swim started heavily abusing alcohol a few years back, this then turned to stimulants such as amphetamines, cocaine etc, and then onto MDMA or tranqulisers on the weekend. The last few months this has been every day, so swim is calling a halt. Swim has tried this before, but swim has realised.. if you stop drinking, you just do more drugs, if you stop drugs, you drink more, if you stop both, it's cigarettes and sleeping pills. Swim realises alot of people will say "why only 2 months?".. well, if swim were to say he's quitting it all forever, he'd be lying. For one thing, swim is a young man with plenty of life left in him, and for another, setting a goal like that is just setting you up for disaster. Swim can make 2 months and he knows it, although he knows the odd slip here and there is possible, it's how you deal with it that counts (although swim does not intend to slip) The idea behind this is twofold - A) detox the system, get the brain working again and generally get swim's shit together. B) get out of the habit, so that hopefully come summer, if swim wants a drink, he can have a drink, without ending up on a raving bender for 10 days and spending mega £££ .. swim is trying to learn some self control. Anyway, I'm not really expecting any comments or whatnot (although support would be nice!), I just wanted to share this, to get it out in the open. Swim feels that by sharing this information, it clarifies it and makes it more real. Thankyou =) |

Re: 2 month break as of 30/03/08
Actually a lot of what swiy says makes a lot of sense. In swim's experience, it is easy for her to trade one addiction for another. She gives up coke, gets on meth, gets off meth, gets on benzos, gets off benzos, and on adderall....see the point? Although abstaining for 2 months is good, it is always good to have therapy of some kind in addition to this. There is usually underlying reasons people who have addictive tendencies use.
Also no one intends to slip, but slips usually happen. How you deal with them is what is important and don't use them as an excuse to use. It sounds like swiy has a plan. Best of luck to him. |

Re: 2 month break as of 30/03/08
Thankyou =)
To clarify, swim thinks that after 2 months clean he should be able to trust himself to have a drink or a little bump at a party, without ending up going on a binge.. does that make sense? swim doesn't mind drinking etc, but is trying to take a break so he gets out of the habit of doing it all every day. Of course, that being said, if swim does slip back into it, swim will have to take a much longer break, something like 6 months. Swim wishes to be able to enjoy the fruits of the world without becoming dependent on them. Again thankyou for the support =) |
