A shop in Wellington wants to get rid of thousands of BZP-based party pills before tonight's midnight deadline. While the bargain price - $1 per pill - has brought fears of people binging, the focus has already moved onto what will replace BZP.

A shop in Wellington wants to get rid of thousands of BZP-based party pills before tonight's midnight deadline. While the bargain price - $1 per pill - has brought fears of people binging, the focus has already moved onto what will replace BZP.

"We have been working on this since late last year with the new products," says Geoff Percy of Wize Marketing. "We have got a product that's 30mg, a little container that's four times stronger than V, there's no sugar in it, no crash the next day."
The expected wave of new non-BZP-based products could be dangerous. The drug foundation says it is not known what is in them or what the health effects are and that the industry is not coming clean about what the contents are.

"At least with the (BZP-based) party pills we had R18 and an advertising ban and those sorts of things in place," says Chris Fowlie of the Hemp Store. "With the new products that come out there's no controls at all."

Which is why they want the industry to put a temporary hold on sales until the new products have been analysed independently.
Some businesses say they will not sell any new pills until they have been tested, but many others will. If the products are unregulated, it means anyone of any age, including children, could be able to get their hands on them.
