Taking a long time to filter through 2 coffee filters

Is this normal? It's taking a few hours (more like 4) and i suspect theres still more to filter through. I'm doing it in the fridge.

On the plus side, my CWE solution is a lot clearer then I thought it would be, with only about 2 or 3 visible particles in it - very small. It's not 100% clear, like water, but very very close.

I've done a search(s), couldn't really find any info pertaining to this. I only really ask because in other threads i have noticed people saying it takes them less then or about an hour, from start to finish.

Any help / input is appreciated. I'll add my experience to the experience thread when I'm done.

Re: Taking a long time to filter through 2 coffee filters

Edit -

For the record I am using 33 x 10/500 pcm pills (aiming for 300mg of codeine, I'm sure this is optimistic), 67 mls of water for the solution + 10 mls to wash out the initial jar.

Re: Taking a long time to filter through 2 coffee filters

Your lab rat is using too many pills in too little water, IMO.
When my lab rat was addicted to codeine, he would put between 8 to 12 pills in a small white plastic cup filled 3/4 full. He found that 16 or more pills tended to clog the coffee filter, and he didn't like the thought of ANY codeine going to waste!

As for my lab rat, as his addiction got stronger, he would have to have to have multiple CWE's on the go at the same time, he developed an almost military precision schedule and towards the end he was spending over half of every single day buying codeine pills and performing CWE's, and going through 60+ pills per day

Also it depends very much on the type (brand) of pills. Some of them have real nasty binders that clog up coffee filters very fast, and some don't.
This really does make a huge difference, if u have access to any other brand of the same pills then try those instead.

Re: Taking a long time to filter through 2 coffee filters

I'd like to point out I didn't mean myself, i was posting on behalf of a friend who is doing this in a country where it is perfectly legal. For the record, we were talking on the telephone and i was simply transcribing the conversation.

He would like to thank se2 for the information. I guess he'll have to start using more "lots" to extract them, that's if he is going to consume them in the same day. I'll mention this next time we talk on the phone. It's a real pity he doesn't have internet access and gets me to transcribe his plans.

Wink Re: Taking a long time to filter through 2 coffee filters

Also tell your friend to try out a few different types of coffee filters. Some are better than others, but the difference isn't massive.

Actually I've just thought of another "tip" to tell your friend, which will help greatly with the filter clogging problem.
For this he will need: a handkerchief (a plain white one is best so there's no coloured dye to seep out), and a large wide glass - a stolen pint glass from a pub is perfect! This is written to your friend, so when I say "you", that means "he" or "him" (or "she"!).

1. Wet the whole handkerchief in cold water and place it on top of the pint glass.
2. Slowly pour in your cold "mixture", stirring it a lot. You may need to hold the handkerchief in place if you have a lot of "mixture", otherwise the whole thing will fall into the glass! If you think you have too much, simply use 2 glasses and 2 handkerchiefs etc.
3. The handkerchief is worse at filtering than a coffee filter is, but its main purpose here is to filter out all the bulk of the worst crap quickly so that your coffee filter steps later are much more efficient and do not get clogged.
4. When most of the liquid has gone through your handkerchief "filter", you can pick it up by all 4 corners and then SQUEEZE it so the remaining liquid is forced through into the glass!
5. This step is optional and will only make a small difference to the overall yield: You will now be left with a somewhat solid "ball" of white crap in the handkerchief. There may still be a small amount of delicious codeine left in it, so put it back over the glass with the "ball" in the middle and pour a little fresh cold water on it. Then quickly make sure the "ball" dissolves in the new water with a spoon, and repeat the last few steps again.

Good luck!
