Re: mdma toxicology

So the theory is that neurotoxicity is a result of depleted serotonine leaving space for dopamine to be re-uptaken by the transporter, and then broken down into hydrogen peroxide by MAO? The theory proposes that the re-uptake transporters only uptake dopamine when there is an insufficient amount of serotonine, for instance on a comedown.

I have read that many people combine MDMA with GHB/GBL, and also that GHB/GBL releases amounts of dopamine. If this is the case then using GHB/GBL on a comedown could possibly increase the neurotoxicity of the MDMA, by making more dopamine available for the MAO to metabolise into hydrogen peroxide?

Although I am aware that people use the combination of MDMA with GHB/GBL, I do not personally know anyone that does. Has anyone heard any reports that could confirm if this hypothesis does indeed cause increased toxicity, or that subjectively it feels like it does?

Re: mdma toxicology

don't forget of course that a lot of the toxicity has been linked to the serotonin depleting metabolites of mdma which show up a few days after use and are responsible for that mid week dip-- I gather these have a much longer running depletion than the quick dip at the end of mdma use when used responsibly

Re: mdma toxicology

If this stuff really interests you, you people should check out some of the articles in our MDMA file archive. There are many related to toxicity and the pharmocology of the drug.

heres some:

The pharmacology and toxicology of "ecstasy" (MDMA) and related drugs
The Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology of 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, “Ecstasy”)
