amitriptyline+codeine
A friend of swim was prescribed amytriptyline for a mixture of depression and insomnia but he said that it produced some very nice effects when combined with the valium he was taking.
Swim thought that it might be a good idea to combine 10 mg of ami and 240 of codeine phosphate (no need to do an extraction...luckily they aren't tainted with shitty pain relief substances). Onset was about 20-35 minutes and swim had the usual euphroric feeling from the codeine and then the sort of " I am very happy on the couch and don't think I'll move for the next few days and everything is going to be ok" feeling. What was interesting was that it lasted for much longer 2 hours at least before swim got to the next stage which is falling into a deep sleep and waking up with a dry mouth. Also with codeine alone, swim tends to feel depressed for 6-8 hours after all the good stuff has happened but with the amitriptyline that didn't happen. Has anyone else had a good experience combining amitriptyline with other substances? |

Re: amitriptyline+codeine
For crying out loud!
Amitryptiline is a tricyclic antidepressant. It doesn't have any recreational side effects (unless you count dry eyes and mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention or constipation). Because it can also cause sedation, mixing with other CNS depressants (benzos, opiates, alcohol) is also not recommended. Tricyclics are incredibly toxic in overdose, causing coma, respiratory depression, seizures and catastrophic cardiac arrhytmias They are not drugs to be messed around with, flamingos, although, they can, for some, be very effective therapeutically for depression and atypical pain (such as trigeminal neuralgia and other nerve pain). |

Yes, it did seem to increase the effects of the codeine. Might not be recommended but swim will carry on mixing it in small quantities with benzos and opiates. |

Re: amitriptyline+codeine
Apparantly amitriptyline inhibits cyp3a4, which converts codeine to norcodeine, which would free up more codeine for conversion to morphine and increase the potency of codeine.
But it also inhibits cyp2d6 which converts codeine to morphine, making the whole affair quite pointless. Would probably increase the potency of benzos though, like grapefruit juice. |

Re: amitriptyline+codeine
My pain doc perscribed me elavil (Amitriptyline) along with 80 mg's of Hydrocodone a day so it should be fine with opiates at least norcos. Also was taking 300 mgs of nuerontin a day along side it but that was a year and a half ago.

Re: amitriptyline+codeine
Your doctor did not anticipate recreational doses when prescribing you both at once. Be careful =)

Re: amitriptyline+codeine
I have heard of people abusing amitriptyline and amitriptyline being sold as diazepam, the stories include people have serious bouts of delirium similar to something like diphenhydramine or chlorpromazine.
Definitely not something to play about with and abuse. |

Re: amitriptyline+codeine
It has been known to put people into coma. Sometimes fatal. Amitriptyline should be poured down the sink - unless prescribed by a qualified physician.
