TitleComparison of the acute physical and mental effects of ephedrine, fenfluramine, phentermine and prolintane.
SourceMethods & Findings in Experimental & Clinical Pharmacology. 6(5):265-70, 1984 May.
AbstractPhysical and mental effects of a single oral dose of ephedrine (ephedrine HCl 30 or 40 mg), fenfluramine (fenfluramine HCl 15 or 20 mg), phentermine (7.5 or 11.25 mg) and prolintane (prolintane HCl 10 or 20 mg) were compared in a double-blind placebo-controlled study. Each group consisted of 16-43 healthy volunteer medical students. The subjects fasted for at least 3 hr before drug administration and further until the end of the experiment. All the parameters were measured just prior to giving the drug, and 1.5 hr and 2.5 hr afterwards. Ephedrine significantly increased systolic blood pressure (p less than 0.05) and heart rate (p less than 0.01), whereas the other sympathomimetics affected these parameters only slightly or negligibly. None of the drugs markedly changed the tapping rate of the dominant hand. Mental activity was evaluated with a self-rating check list consisting of various mental modalities. None of the sympathomimetics significantly modified the mental activity. Memory, learning and concentration ability were evaluated with sign recording and digit span tests. In the digit span test no changes were obtained. In the sign recording test (for 3 min), phentermine increased significantly the recording score at both 1.5 hr (p less than 0.05) and 2.5 hr (p less than 0.005), and prolintane at 2.5 hr (p less than 0.05) after drug administration. The results suggest that in the doses given, which are commonly used in medical practice, ephedrine has the most pronounced cardiovascular effects, while phentermine and prolintane seem to be most active in the performance of some mental tasks.

Title[New drugs at "rave parties": ketamine and prolintane]. [French]
SourceActa Clinica Belgica - Supplementum. (1):41-6, 2002.
"Rave parties", all-night dance parties based on "techno" music, represent an increasing phenomenon in France. "Rave drugs" refers to a wide variety of drugs used by the young participants owing to their hallucinogenic or stimulant effects. Uncertainties about the sources of these substances, the possible contaminants and the multiplicity of the associations make it difficult to evaluate the toxic consequences that might be expected in this particular context. This report presents toxicological cases documented by analytical findings in which two pharmacological agents abused in "rave parties" in South-West of France were found. The day following a party, a 17 year-old girl showed a confused state with drowsiness and hallucinations. She confessed having consumed a white powder sold as "ecstasy", that sample analysis identified as pure ketamine. Ketamine is an anaesthetic agent primarily used in veterinary medicine and paediatrics. This drug seems to be abused, mainly by the intranasal route, owing to its hallucinogen effects. Its used in "rave-party" appears to be marked by unsuspected consumption. All long another party, a large quantity of orange tablets were sold and abused by several participants. Analysis performed on some fragments of these tablets revealed the presence of prolintane and ascorbic acid. Prolintane, an amphetamine-related substance, is a central nervous system stimulant. This compound is "freely" available in Spain in combination with several vitamins, under the form of tablets with orange coating named "Katovit" and sold at low price: 1.93 [symbol: see text]/20 tablets (200 mg of prolintane).
Interesting chemical, anyone know anything more about "Katovit" ?

Re: Prolintane / Katovit

Well its a class C drug, didn't realise.

Guess its not so much an RC as more an old medical stimulant. Oh well still interesting, from reading about it sounds a softer version of MDPV. [Which now makes sense looking at the structure]

Still one to place in the memory bank out of interest.

Re: Prolintane / Katovit

Fascinating. Some I know love MPH above all, have DRI's their mission in general, and since MDPV is allegedly similar to both MPH and Prolintane in that respect, they wonder how Prolintane compares to MPH?

MDPV being a relatively scarce RC in the states and Prolintane being somewhat established elsewhere, it warrants curiosity as to legality/availability as well... Anyone else care to illuminate us on either subject? SWIM wants to avoid a 5-hour web search for the stuff if it's not worth the trouble.

Re: Prolintane / Katovit

Prolintan as "Katovit"(added some B vitamins),was until the early 90ies
available without prescription in german pharmacys, very cheap also.
as far as swim remembers it was not impressive, more some kind of ephedrine
like substance.one only bought it if you needed an upper and you could
not get anything else.nobody really missed it after it was discontinued.
think it was marketed as some kind of strenghening tonic, especially for the elderly.lol.
no similarity to MDPV
