5-HTP, st.john's wort contraindications and run-off periods?

SWIp$ has used st. johns wort for depresson. SWIp$ has read that st. johns wort should not be used at the same time as MDMA,LSD and a few other seretonogenic psychedelics because of the risk of "seratonin syndrome". pror to reading that SWIp$ recreationally used MDMA whilst taking st. johns wort with noticable effects. SWIp$ also deliberately took st. johns wort in order to intensify the effects of LSA-containing seeds.
SWIp$ thinks that the warnings are based on st. johns wort being catagorised as an MAO inhibitor when infact other studies show its mode of action to be slightly different.
nevertheless SWIp$ has had episodes in the past where after the use of psychedelics he suffers from insomnia insofar as for the next week or so after, meaning SWIp$ can sleep but not as many hours as SWIp$ would like. p$ thinks that in some of these cases this insomnia (rather than the use of psychedelics per se) has led to SWIp$ becoming, shall we say, a little stressed out and unable to think straight. SWIp$ wonders
a) if there should be a run-off period between taking seretonogenic psychedelics/stimulants and resuming st.john's wort, not nescessarily because of the danger of seratonin syndrome but because the st.johns wort is not beneficial in this situation
b) if 5-HT helps in this situation as it is judged to be good for insomnia.
the propreitor of a health supplies business whom SWIp$ considers knowledgeable and trustworthy recommended 5-HTP as a harm reduction measure for MDMA. SWIp$ would be interested in the opinions of those on this forum.

St. Johns wort is a mild MAO-I. Thats not debated. However, how it exherts an antidepressive effect is debated. Just by valerian root or Benadryl to sleep. I dont know? Its less of a hastle and less expensive. I dont any different with 5htp

sure.... i don't really fing 5htp aids sleep anyway. valerian would be more effective. or maybe melatonin. it consider its use more as an antidepressant supplemental to the st johns wort. .. and to avoid depletion of seatonin due to use of mdma etc. ..which of course should not theoretically be used with mdma. ah well.

melatonin is converted from serotonin from 5 htp so its a big chain. as for avoiding depletion of serotonin due to ex, i personallyy dont think the evidence supports that this takes care of depletion due to the fact that MDMA causes decrease in # and efficienty of serotonin receptors so that will not be reversed with 5htp.
