how would SWIM get antidepressents?

SWIM i met is very depressed, if he were to go to a doctor what would he tell the doctor for him to perscribe him anti depresents?, SWIM does not want to go to councling and is afraid the doctor will send him to a councilist, but he just wants to get antidepressents, how would he come about getting them?

If he's in the US it's as easy as saying "I'm depressed". Antidepressants are given out like candy because people don't like to actually deal with their problems when they can take a pill to suppress emotion.

In the UK it is not always as easy. Doctors will often look at whether the reported depression actually warrants medication, with questions relating to sleep, mood, emotional state, motivation, appetite, how long the symptoms have been present, before prescribing.

Why is your friend reluctant to go for counselling? I'd recommend he rethink his stance on this, as medication alone will not deal with the issues leading to the depression in the majority of cases - if these issues are not dealt with, the depression will not disappear magically because of a course of pills I'm afraid. The person taking them may feel better able to cope for a while if the right medication for them is prescribed (& finding the right medication can sometimes be a hit & miss affair), but the chances of the depression reoccuring are high. Counselling can give one the tools with which to avoid the situations & mind states that lead to depression in the first place.

just talk to a docter,make a show. tell your doctor that you have a problem and that you need help.tell him you feel down all the time.but what i will tell you is if you do get those pills it might change the way you feel E,so think about it befor you do it.
