LSD: Psychomimetic at all?

I believe that the theory of LSD being a psychomimetic has been refuted, however I'm interested in knowing if there are any similarites at all between psychosis/schizophrenia and an LSD trip. Are there any members who know veterans of both who could share?

Re: LSD: Psychomimetic at all?

The flamingos have a friend (sadly, through circumstance they are no longer in touch) who was schizophrenic (when they first met and during their period of drug use together he had not been diagnosed, although they talked about it later)

It's touched on in this post here...

http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/sho...55&postcount=3

To elaborate a little:

He reported NEVER having visual distortions/hallucinations with his illness, whereas he did with LSD. With LSD the audio hallucinations which he found so distressing were somewhat attenuated at times and other times became unbearable. He said the depersonalization and derealisation with LSD were "different", but he wasn't able to put his finger on it. He didn't seem to get paranoid with LSD, whereas he was extremely (and occasionally frighteningly so) with his illness

He also took mushrooms on occasion, but the flamingos didn't ever really talk to him about that.

Re: LSD: Psychomimetic at all?

I was thinking of PMing Nagognog about this, but I'll make it public anyway. I'm speaking to a friend from highschool on MSN who is talking about a mutual friend who I haven't seen in about a year. Last time I saw him was at a street festival where he was tripping on LSD. I've heard from friends that all he lived for at one point was "trance parties and chemicals."

They fear that he is he has lapsed into schizophrenia from his copious use of psychedelics.

Here're some of the reported symptons. Do you think this is the product of LSD psychosis, or something else? It's been present for about a year.

*names changed*

Grant says:
ive seen glen do mad shit!
Grant says:mad shit......
Grant says:
which no normal person would ever do

Grant says:
well firstly
Grant says:
we were all at the trance party sitting in a circle, smoking, chilling u know
Grant says:
last yr vortex
Grant says:
he just sits, doesnt say a word

Grant says:
he never speaks hey - ppl play poker with him and he just sits and chain smokes and doesnt spk for like 5 hrs
Grant says:
well at the party
Grant says:
glen suddenly turns his head and starts puking
Grant says:
he then everyones like whatsup
Grant says:
and he just wipes his mouth as if nothing happened
Grant says:
then we check he was drinking a whole bottle of vodka by himself
Grant says:
he then started fucking crying out of no where

- Interval -

Grant says:
we went to signal hill to smoke
Grant says:
and he was following us
Grant says:
so we told him that he couldnt come to the americans house (as he really couldnt)
Grant says:
and he didnt listen
Grant says:
so we drive away and he starts following
Grant says:
so we stop the car and say "glen, u CANNOT come with"
Grant says:
and then we drive away again (its garys car and alons car)
Grant says:
and were driving down the neck and he starts tailing us, trying to push gary off the road.
Grant says:
and then gary starts speeding trying to get away and he doesnt stop following. We all stopped, got out of the car and he just turns around and drives off.

- Interval -

Grant says:
i mean glen, when i was spking to him, was staring right through me with this cold, evil stare
Grant says:
he then starts fucking crying again

Grant says:
the guy doesnt spk
Grant says:
and when he does, he mumbles and makes absolutely no sense
Grant says:
its like hes not there

- Interval -

Grant says:
he sat downstairs in the media room staring at the tv while we played games
Grant says:
he just stared bru and did this scary type laugh sound
Grant says:
didnt say a word

Sorry for the raw format, but this distressing... This guy lives on his own and used to be a very outgoing and outspoken guy...Seems like that's not the case anymore. He hasn't visited a psychiatrist and his parents aren't in much contact with him anymore.

Friends are afraid to take him anywhere in case word of their drug use gets out. Is there any indication of what he may be suffering from? Apparently when he starts crying, it's because of petty incidents from grade school.

Re: LSD: Psychomimetic at all?

I'm now also hearing stories of another guy that drank a cup of moonflower tea (Datura) and is seemingly stuck in a permanent trip. He can't remember his name and doesn't make sense when he speaks. Although I doubt it's a permanent trip, this isn't an urban legend entirely as I knew guy years ago. Can the only diagnosis for these symptoms be the activation of a latent mental condition?

lsd and datura are two completely different animals....lsd is a hallucinogen, datura is a deleriant... you can't really compare the two.

datura is nothing to fuck around with...but i still dont buy the permanant trip thing.

how do you know that your friend didn't have underlying psychological conditions before the drugs? lsd wont make you mentally ill, but it can certainly aggrevate latent psychological conditions

Re: LSD: Psychomimetic at all?

Swiy need's to get his buddy to lay off the drugs for a while. Definatly sounds like he's going down the wrong path. Bit mean of swiy's friends to tell him that he couldnt come with them for whatever reason , if the guy is turning delusional from drugs the last thing he needs is his friends abandoning him, it may have been only for a night but perhaps it seemed more of a big deal to him ya know?

Re: LSD: Psychomimetic at all?

Yeah, these girls from the US were afraid of his behaviour and didn't want him in their house. From what I hear, he doesn't use psychedelics anymore. Just smokes weed, which apparently intensifies his problems.

I consider myself educated in psychedelics and don't believe he or Mr. Datura have been stuck in a trip for so long, but I am interested in understanding his problem. I used to be friendly with this guy and maybe SWIM - who's had more experience with psychedelics than any of his other friends - could help him out.

Re: LSD: Psychomimetic at all?

Is their the possibility of someone "frying their brains" with Datura? Or are all permanent adverse effects of hallucinogens the cause of a latent condition being awakened?
