It is (by the sounds of things) a rubbish nootropic which has methylenedioxy-benzylpiperazine as a metabolite. (Which has no interesting effects)
My rather flippent point...
Don't you think people researching this really just wanted to mess around with the methlenedioxy-benzyl compounds? Invented in 1983 (interesting) - maybe some clever person wanted a legit source of methylenedioxyP2P and it had similar starting point.
...like I say maybe a little flippent but you never know really. Same with paroxetine - bet Glaxo were researching and "researching" (prob both) MDMA effects when thinking about its acute anti-depressant effect.
I could of course be completely wrong but we'll never really know I guess.
