Yes they can except for Lophophora williamsii (Peyote). It is forbidden in the US and some other countries!!


Infact there are many cactus species that contain alkaloids like mescaline or hordanine. These plants use these substances to prevent animals from eating there tissue.


Species like. Trichocereus, Aztekium, Astrophytum can all be bought at regular cactus nurseries.

bridgesii, cuzcoensis ,fulvinanus, pachanoi (San Pedro), peruvianus (Peruvian Torch), macrogonus, taquimbalensis. erscheckii (Cordon Grande), validu, werdermannianus are all fairly common


I definitely recommend peruvian torch, it grows much quicker than san pedro.
