MDDMA Can anyone shed some light?

SWIM was looking through the DEA gov journal the Microgram(where they list seizures and such and all the crazy ways ppl get drugs into this county) and while reading through SWIM see's X tabs that contain MDMA, Methamphetamine, and MDDMA or 3,4-methylenedioxydimethylamphetamine. SWIM realizes he has never heard any mention of this substance, and google searches only return the DEA page pretty much. So does anyone got any information on this substance? or any with chemistry have a hypothesis about its differences from MDMA?

makes for interesting reading, 660,000 pills, all containing up to 4% ketamine plus various other substances. i should imagine all these pills came from the same lab, with the variety of colours and presses added on for economic reasons. but it tells you that even a big time 'professional' lab will put a load of rubbish in there.

Back on topic, please. MDDMA was the topic. From general knowledge of molecular psychopharmacology - the addition of a methyl group in this position on the molecule of an active compound, MDMA, would likely lessen the effect greatly. Example: MDMA is an anomaly in the N-Methyl affording greater activity than the parent molecule - MDA. Greater, but less effective time. But an additional N-Methyl would likely decrease this greatly.

Now why would the DEA wish to play with such? It has never appeared on the street to anyone's knowledge. So why?

And it must be synthesized independently? Or is it the trace result of other synthesis(as in the DEA source it said it was in trace amounts) and it seems illogical to put trace amounts of a substance that is greatly less active that the primary substance.
