tylenol with codeine after wisdom teeth out?
I just got my wisdom teeth out earlier today and I have been feeling fine until whatever they gave me at the dentist wore off I've been taking the tylenol with codiene as directed from my dentist but the pain is still there. I was wondering if there is a way to get a pain killer that actually works for me. I'm not trying to get drugs for recreational purposes I just want the pain from the operation to stop. Any information would be useful, the only thing I can think of is to give my dentist a call first thing in the morning and see if at all possible to get some other sort of pain killer that may work better. If this is the only way to get a pill that works I would much appreciate to know. I'm still new on this forum and I'm pretty sure I didn't break any rules with this post, if I did I will repost. Thank you.

Re: tylenol with codiene after wisdom teeth out?
Usually calling the doctor or dentist is the best option. Oral surgeons are used to refilling a prescription or issuing a new one once more after surgery. They may ask SWIY to come back in to check up and make sure that nothing is wrong with the sockets, but it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Re: tylenol with codiene after wisdom teeth out?
SWIM had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out at once, plus 3 fillings and she was in unbearable pain. Codeine - even in large amounts - didn't work neither did ibuprofin. Her sleeping pills weren't even working.... after a couple of days SWIM got a script for Voltaren/Diclofenac/Cataflam, which helped SWIM a lot. It is is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) taken to reduce inflammation and an analgesic reducing pain.

Re: tylenol with codiene after wisdom teeth out?
SWIM knew someone who got a bunch of work done on their teeth, SWIM thinks a bunch of crowns and what not. It was a long proceedure, so he knows there was a LOT of work done. Anyway, she got a lot of pain in her teeth afterwards, and she told her dentist that the pain was unbearable, and the T3's were doing nothing. Anyway, long story short the dentist gave her a script for percocets... SWIM was very surprised that her dentist gave her that script.
What you should do as Forthesevenlakes said, is call you doc. If you tell him the codeine doesnt seem to be helping, he will likly write u a different script because codeine doesnt work for everyone (some are missing the needed enzyme to convert it to morphine). Just tell him something like, the pain is unbearable, and that the codeine doesnt seem to be helping. Maybe also mention that the pain is keeping you up at night. Now, I doubt he'd give u a script for perc's but you may end up with some vicodin. |

Re: tylenol with codiene after wisdom teeth out?
Swim gets dihydorcodeine for there pains, but finds that they aren't very good for toothache so upto now swims found the best way to fight it is to take 2*500mg paracetamol and 2*ibuprofen 4 times a day and this seems to work well for swim.

Thank you for all the responses, i did call back and the doctor ended up giving me vicodin which made a world of difference. finally i can actually think instead of just being in pain.
