near overdose with hydrocodone?

So the other day my good friend swim bought three 5mg hydrocodone pills. He had read about how they can be potentiated using grapefruit juice and tums. So swim decided to try it out. (it was swims first time trying hydro and he hadn't eaten all day) He went out bought some grapefruit juice and drank around 8 oz. Half an hour later he chewed two tums pills and washed down two hydros with some water. He was wating to feel something but all that really happend was he got really relaxed. Maybe like an hour or more after the two pills when he wasn't really feeling any euphoria he decided to eat another tums and take the last pill. He waited a while and got a little more relaxed but nothing special. Swim was hungry so decided that he was going to smoke a bowl and eat some food. Swim did just that a little while after that when he was sitting at his computer he started to feel like he couldn't catch his breath. He was breathing alright but it felt like his body was not absorbing the oxygen. Swim started to panic when this happened he had never experienced anything like this before. He started to take deep breaths and that seemed to help. He was feeling really drowsy and wanted to fall asleep. He decided that it would be best to go out side and sit down on the front steps of his house where his neighbor could see him in case he passed out or something because he felt like he was. So he did just that and he calmed down a bit but he got even more sleepy. He went back inside and his whole body was shaking. He decided to wash some dishes to keep awake . Then the same thing started to happen but this time he also started to feel nousious so he went back outside and did the same thing. Again he started to feel real sleepy so he went back inside to continue. Same thing happened again he felt like he couldn't breath and got nausious only this time he almost did throw up. He decided to sit outside untill he felt better and eventually he did. The whole thing lasted maybe like an hour and a half. This was a scary experience for swim. He was wondering if he was close to overdosing or what. He did some search and it also sounds like a panic attack but swim is not sure hes never had anything like this happen before. Sorry about the lenght of this.

SWIM is going to go with panic attack. Probably some intense paranoia from the weed combined with what was at the time an unknown substance. 15mg seems too low to od on but swim doesnt know much about the grapejuice and tums.

Even with the potentiation, it doesnt seem like 15 mg hydrocodone is enough to OD on. It sounds like all the symptoms of a panic attack, which probably perpetuated itself by SWIY having the thought that it might be an overdose. That kind of fear is a big deal when its happening and usually enough to keep the attack going. The weed may or may not have factored into it, but some people do get panic attacks with weed. Breathing exercises and stress management techniques can often help counter panic attacks in the future, as can CBT and certain medications (although staying away from opiates might be the easiest option).

I also thought that 15 mg is a very low amount to cause an od. the thing is that panic attacks dont usually last as long as what happened to my friend swim. when he had gone back inside for the first time he had calmed down quite a bit. he was very drowsy and shaking but he wasnt really scared or anything he thought it had passed. Then the whole thing started to happen again. maybe swim should just take a break.

Panic attacks can last for quite a while, especially if one is thinking there is a reason to panic (fear of dying, OD, etc.) but if SWIY is getting odd effects like this from a drug, it might be time to slow down as SWIY says.
