TWO people have been arrested after £4.4 million worth of the date-rape drug GHB was seized at a home and business in Livingston.
A 53-year-old Edinburgh man and a 45-year-old woman from Livingston were today due to appear at Linlithgow Sheriff Court following the operation.
The Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency carried out raids in the Craigshill area of the West Lothian town in a five-day operation.
Lothian and Borders police officers were also involved in the operation which were was carried out between April 19 and 24 and involved both SDEA and police officers.
The premises were searched before GHB - Gammahydroxybutrate - was seized.
The date-rape drug GHB was made illegal after concerns were raised over the soaring number of women attacked after the chemical was slipped into their drinks.
The Home Office agreed to reclassify the drug to Class C status after evidence emerged that its use by men in rape attacks was increasing.
The colourless, odourless liquid is a powerful anaesthetic which knocks out victims and leaves them with no knowledge of what has happened.
Because it is difficult to detect in the blood, prosecutions are rare.
Clubbers also use the drug, also known as 'liquid ecstasy', to create a 'high'.
In small quantities it acts as an anti-depressant but has been linked to a number of deaths.
Leading stars, including Nick Nolte, have admitted to taking it.
A Lothian and Borders police spokesman said: "I can confirm a man and woman have been arrested and both will appear at Linlithgow Sheriff Court today."

As far as I know it is not hard to test for GHB. I know two persons who have been tested positive for GHB in the local hospital after some fool spiked their drinks with GHB.

swib thinks it leaves the body real quick. So if it is the next day or more it probally will not be there but can be tested for if close to enough to time of dose
