Question about iochroma fuchsiodes
Has anyone heard of this plant? A few sources speculate on it containing tropane alkaloids. I've smoked a few leaves with no effects. Any information would be appreciated.
PS: I know about the dangers of tropane alkaloids so no need for a rant. |

As I recall, iochroma fuchsiodes contains a high percentage of tropanes, and is considered to be a powerful and dangerous ally by curanderos. However, I have never seen a report of human ingestion, so who knows. Normally tropanes are effective smoked, so maybe the power of this plant is rumored, or the actives are novel tropanes or some other molecule.
Nice looking plant, though most tropane containing plants are... Snapper |

I guess SWIM will be the first to report, then. SWIM has experimented with many deliriants including brugmansia, diphenhydramine, and doxylamine. First time, SWIM smoked 3 leaves. He did not get any hallucinogenic effects. Second time, 6 leaves didn't do anything. Last night SWIM used about a gram of leaves to create an extraction using isopropyl alcohol. He got a ball a little bigger than your typical matchhead. Upon smoking it, SWIM got the same results. But one thing he noticed is, and this may be a placebo (though one that always happens), when you smoke these leaves your mood is instantly uplifted. This effect is so strong that SWIM and his friends have resorted to calling iochroma "happy leaves." Well, make of this what you will.
