Safety issues with salvia divinorum

I want to try salvia and it will be my first time. I was wondering what dose i should start with and if its safe to use without a sitter, just sitting in my room.

I don't remember where it was, but 3 or 4 people posted about how hard it made them trip, so do investigate first.

Yeah, i have a friend that has done it and he said he was freaking out pretty bad, and his walls were turning colors and shapes were flying around and such. He did shrooms with me, and me and him were the only ones that felt anything at all. Ill ask him what dose and everything then. I know its a short trip, but ive done some wierd stuff stoned so i wanted to stay in my room and trip, but it might not be safe, is there any side effects of fear or anything?
