GENTLE REMINDERS FOR MYSELF

Occassionally I will compile a list such as this. These are things I find helpful to remind myself. I am not particularly good at any of them, which is fine. They are just reminders. Perhaps someone else will find something here helpful as well.

MIND AND KNOWING
Have faith that all the wisdom one needs in each moment arises and is fully present in each moment.
Do not grasp for understanding. When uncertainty arises, rest with the uncertainty.
Trust in insight, rather than logic.
Ask a question into space, and then allow for a response to arise. There is no need to struggle figuring out answers. Insight comes at its own time and place.
Allow for gaps between thoughts. Insight arises in the gaps.

Think of learning as simply remembering what you already know. You are not gaining knowledge, but rather diffusing the clouds of ignorance which were obscuring what you have always known, and had simply forgot.

Do not be concerned about pleasure and pain, blame and praise, loss and gain, nor fame and disgrace.
Feel the texture of fears and hopes, and then let them go.
Pay no heed to shoulds and wants, but rather listen to your heart.
If one's heart is silent, then there is nothing to do, but be still and content.

Let go of comparisons.
Hold no judgements.
Hold no opinions.
Hold no ideals.
Let go of reference points.
Let go of tension.

Percieve the phenomenal world as like a dream or illusion.
With compassion, clarity of spacious awareness, and an unfettered mind, remain lucid in the dream of life.

Be like a child, a child of illusion.
Remain open.
Remain simple.
Remain natural; uncontrived.
Be no one.
Remain nameless; anonymous.
Remain innocent and blameless.
Remain pure; conceptually undefined.

Breathe and be mindful.
Infuse your mind and body with warmth and light.
Gently radiate warmth and light.
Keep a gentle inward smile.

Be here now.
If you lose your mind, come back.
Remain still and listen.
Be in balance with all things.
Avoid extremes.

Make aspirations to be of humble benefit to all beings for endless time.

Cultivate contentment not dependent on external circumstances.
Wish that others may have what will bring them happiness.
Wish that others may be free of that which causes them suffering.
Have sympathetic joy for the happiness of others.
Remain unfettered regardless of what occurs.

Refrain from competition.
Do not display what might arouse envy in others.

Cultivate compassion for those who do you harm. They, like you, are simply seeking happiness, though their methods may not lead to the results they intend for.

Rather than resentment, cultivate compassion for ignorance and stupidity. Cultivate compassion for the ignorance and stupidity not only of others, but of yourself as well.
Ignorance is not a lack of intelligence, but a deep fog that obscures the innate and limitless intelligence we all possess.

Have compassion for how difficult it is for you to let go of harmful habitual thoughts, words, and activities, and for how difficult it is to increase virtuous thoughts, words, and deeds.
Let go of guilt, and simply feel the gentle sadness of remorse for your harmful propensities. Continue working to decrease the harmful and increase the beneficial.

Feel the texture of your experience, without judging or labeling it. It is neither good nor bad. It is just texture, the suchness of now.

Imagine that mind is in sexual union with appearances. The world is your inseperable consort. You are whole, complete, and fulfilled in every moment.
Every moment is complete, yet never finished.

Remember that anything built will one day fall.
Anything collected will one day be scattered.
All phenomenal things are impermanent.

Remember that desire is insatiable.
The more we chase after desires, the more desire grows.
Be thankful for what you have and for the generosity of those around you.
Cultivate contentment with what is--as it is.

BODY AND ACTING
Do nothing.
Act spontaneously, allowing nonconceptual wisdom to move you.
Do no harm.
Do not force anything.
Allow for gaps between activities.
Be mindful.
Be firm, yet gentle.

Your feet are firmly rooted in the earth.
Your hips sway like water.
Your sex organs generate regenerative heat like fire.
Your belly generates digestive heat like fire.
Your spine, shoulders and arms sway like bamboo in a gentle breeze.
Your breathe is like a refreshing breeze, or primordial ocean waves, diffusing into space.
Let your mind merge with your breathe. Let your breath merge with space.
Your mind is as vast as space, and clear as a cloudless sky.

SPEECH
Speak sincerely, with honesty and kindness.
Speak with a gentle and melodious voice.
Allow others the last word.
Refrain from gossip, harsh words, divisive speech, and lying.
Keep your vows, and don't make them lightly.
Imagine your speech and song calming the elements of the environment and soothing the minds of beings.

LIFE AND DEATH
Die, not proud of your accomplishments, but free of regret.
Today is a good day to die.

At the time of death, let your consciousness collect in your central channel at the heart chakra. Then, as a droplet of light, exit through the crown of your head and dissolve into space.
Arise again with threefold purity, with nondual perception that does not break experience down into the categories of a knower, something known, and an act of knowing.

DEDICATION OF MERIT
By any merit that might arise from compiling this list of reminders and attempting to embody them, may all beings attain and stabilize threefold purity, and the spontaneous insight known as omniscience.

Dear Silence,

I absolutely resonate with these words.
I like lists as well.
I might add to yours;

Allow

Accept

Love

Look in a mirror, gaze lovingly in my own eyes and say sweetly with meaning, "I love you"
or, "I am here with you. I am love"

love and peace to you
