First of all, I apologize if this question has been asked; I both
browsed the posts and used the search engine, but couldn't find this
information I was looking for...

That said, my friend is wondering about the possibility of
cross-tolerance between kratom and true opiates. You see, this
friend has only tried kratom three times (the highest dose being about
12 grams of the super-grade stuff, making sure it wasn't the fake batch
that was out), and never felt enough to believe that the drug was
really taking hold... He dismissed it at first, but after this
dude read all the positive reviews of the substance, he has been led to
believe that there must be something to it. The only real
possibilities that he can come up with to explain its ineffectiveness
would be that A) Regardless of reputation, he was sent a bad batch, or
B) Years of heavy opiate use has produced a cross tolerance.

My friend thinks that option A is unlikely, as he knows other people
who have had success with this product/vendor. Still, he
questions option B as he is aware that kratom is frequently used to
treat opium addiction, and in that light, it would seem that tolerance
would be a common issue. This guy did most any opiate he could
get (which would be just about all of them), though he preferred opium
above all the rest, and went through about a year of using this
substance 2-3 times daily.

Anyhow, he'll appreciate any response, as he has been clean for quite
awhile and doesn't want to fall back into trouble with opiates, though
at the same time he doesn't exactly have money to waste on a product
that he doesn't know will help.

Sorry for the post length, he was dictating while I typed, and it just got sorta long.

Kratom can cause a cross tolerance to opiates, and the opposite holds true. Opiates can cause a cross tolerance to kratom. Being clean for a long period of time might reduce the tolerance, but the true power of these substances and they're high may never be at it's fullest again. In your freind's case, he may notice some effects typical of opiates, but they probably won't be very strong. Kratom does work wonders for withdrawls when you quit using opiates though.
