Ok... I tried this based on a recipie I read somewhere else. Full
credit for recipe to a user called stringmangolem on the poppies.org forum. I did not make this up myself. I did however modify it to use what I had available. The original recipe is quoted below my post. Ground all my poppy stems, stubs and pod bottoms (I pull the bottoms off my pods with the stem when preparing & dump the seeds out there). I ended up with about a cup and a half of dust; although I can never get the nubby stubs to grind up fully so there are a bunch of those. Not to mention, roughly a monkey's handful of seeds. Add 1 pint of 100 proof vodka to the grindings in a sealed tupperware container. Shake daily. Soak from 3 days to 3 weeks. Strain through a strainer/cheesecloth/t-shirt. Add an additional 4 ounces of alcohol to the remaining mash, shake well and strain again. This should get you about 13-15 ounces of this poppy infused alcohol... or tincture. It's been almost 24 hours and of course I'm bothering the thing. i Just don't want to wait!!! ![]() Apparently the minimum time you can wait is 2-3 days ![]() with best results after 2 WEEKS (aint gonna happen). Supposedly, this makes a very strong opium tincture, along the lines of laudanum. You can add a few tablespoons to a coke, etc. I will keep the board appraised of my progress. I'll probably strain it out; or at least a portion of it out, on saturday night and have a gulp If I don't end up in the ED ![]() I'll post as the buzz settles in. Peas out... Corny stringmangolem's orignal recipe "</span> First I start with 1/4 lb. finely ground poppy heads, a coffee grinder does the job for me. I dump this in any big, fat, sealable glass container. To this I simply add 1 pint of good quality 80 or 100 proof vodka. After mixing this and letting it settle there should be about an inch of free liquid at the top (considering you used a quart jar), if not, add enough to bring the level up. This should be put in a dark place for 2-3 weeks, shaken well every day. The solid should then be separated from the alcohol, yielding about 12 ounces of liquid, 4 ounces still remaining in the pulp. I then add 4 ounces of vodka or distilled water to the pulp and shake well, separating again which yields 4 more ounces. Each tablespoon contains around 3.5 grams of pods. I then do a double extraction with my poor man's laudenum, though a little is lost in this second process, yielding around 6.5 grams per tablespoon. I keep this in an amber glass bottle, otherwise it should be kept out of the light. This will keep for at least three years without losing potency. Hah! three years i am funny. For those with a high tolerance and shitty pods I recommend using an eighty proof vodka and using distilled water in the last process instead of alcohol."</span> |

Well, after 36 hours... I broke and strained the mix. What I got
was a liquid roughly the color of poppy tea. I drank a bit.. then more, then a bunch... unfortunately all I was, was drunk. this time was a bust... I'll maybe try again. |
