The I Chong by Tommy Chong 3/5
This book tells mostly of the situation surrounding Mr. Chong’s arrest and then details his stay in prison. Only a small part of it has to do with his life before that. It’s a rather small book, just over 200 pages. The only drug he mentions taking is marijuana and speaks highly of it. There was nothing like a trip report in the book. He speaks a little on his spirituality and about God, which may bother some readers. The book speaks volumes about how terrible and corrupt the American legal and prison systems are. I was disappointed with the humor in it. Although it is largely light-hearted (spare the political rants), there were only a few times when I smiled because of something funny in the book. Overall it was an interesting book and I think fans and people with an interest in the case or the American legal system in general will enjoy the book.
Also I’m glad I read it before the book I’m reading now High by Brian O’dea, which is another story written in jail, but is a markedly different experience because the author isn’t a celebrity the same way Chong is. I’ll post a review when I finish reading it.
