Re: Food of the Gods
I just recently finished reading "Food of the Gods", and thought it was a very interesting book. Although I don't fully agree with everything McKenna says about drugs (particularly his opinions regarding synthetic/extracted drugs), I do think he made some very insightful points about society today and presented some very convincing and logical theories about the role that natural drugs played in human evolution. He also backs up his theories with good evidence and intelligent reasoning.
This was a very fascinating read, and definately worth checking out. |
Re: Food of the Gods
SWIM read this book last year, and really attached to McKenna's notion that the verbal complex of the brain was stimulated by use of magic mushrooms. The book was very interesting, and written from an anthropological point of view and depicts the dominator culture vs the partnership cultures. He associated mushrooms with several ancient cultures, and even how they have impacted our societies today.
While the viewpoints are interesting, SWIM remembers he disagreed with McKenna on several of them, however as a whole, greatly learned from the book and the viewpoints expressed. |
