the following is the story of one of the girls i went to school with at mountain park baptist boarding school and academy. don't let the name fool you: these people were masters of insidious abuse and had no qualms about keeping almost 200 girls from ages 12 to 17 on thorazine to maintain control of an understaffed "school" that was really just a money-making scheme, as in, tuition checks were made as donations to the churchand therefore non-taxable. they have been run out of mississippi, louisiana, missourri and florida on child abuse allegations. anyway, here is becky's story:

swi just got the call, another former friend has od'ed and is no longer with us. i'll quit sugar-coating it: he's dead and he was a junkie, so who should give a fuck? well i do give a fuck. yeah, he was a junkie. yeah, he was an addict. yeah, he's ripped ppl off in desperate times. but he was my friend, and in rare moments of clarity, he helped me. he encouraged my moving and getting clean.

when will these types of calls stop? when will 6 months go by that swim doesn't hear about friends bein incarcerated or dying? and usually it's the latter.

the south is full of religious nuts. unfortunately, for anyone with chronic pain or anxiety this translates into getting the meds they need into a near impossible task. and forget about needle exchange, let alone even being able to buy em in most places (at least in this state, and btw florida doesn't count as the bible belt really, too many northeastern transplants). swim doesn't have chronic pain, but has been on clonazepam (klonopin for years) and suddenly, despite complete medical records from florida, can't find a psych to prescribe here to save her life. she's been to two already and it's...
