View Full Version : Opinions - Best Energy Drink?

In terms of providing energy, and I guess also regarding cost and
long-term dentrimental effect, what is the best energy drink?
I've tried only Amp, Redbull, and Rockstar. So far I believe
Rockstar to be the best.

Coffe just provides caffeine. Energy drinks provide energy through more than just caffeine.

Try Monster energy drink!! I think it's the best. it's what works for
me. the redbull stuff never really does anything for me (maybe because
it's a small can?). The monster energy drinks come in these big cans
and it doesnt taste bad like red bull...
.. awesome stuff and costs the same as red bull. i onced used it on a
long drive when i was falling asleep. passed by a gas station picked
one up and i drove the rest of the 4 hours with no problem.
SoBe No Fear! I've tried them all (except for Monster which I have heard is good) but SoBe No Fear beats them all. It is the best tasting and I swear after drinking a can you feel like you just took a small amount of speed.

I definitely agree with the fact that while drinking energy drinks when drinking alcohol, you definitely don't feel the effects of alcohol as much. The effects are subsided. This makes you want to drink more and could eventually cause you to drink way too much.
Man, it's such a good thing though! Especially my "cherry bombs" (RedBull and cherry vodka)

The ingredients in energy drinks other than caffeine don't really do
much, if anything. Caffeine content is what matters most, therefore
coffee is going to be the most effective. The one exception is the very
few that contain Sida Cordifolia, which contains ephedrine. The only
know I know that contains this is X-Drinx and various other products
from the XTZ company. On the other hand there is a new drink going
around in New Zeland called Ammo which has BZP, I imagine that has a
bit of a punch to it. http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif
i use piracetam to spice up my coffee,or i meant to say coffee to spice up my piracetam..
energy drinks are crap, imo.Instead take some aminoacids, vit supplements coffee and maybe some nootropics.it works for me

Caffiene is mainly what gives them their kick. The other difference is how fast they are usually ingested. People sip coffee and chug redbull.
Now BZP as a energy drink additive, wow now that would be an eyeopener.
Drinking No Fear will give you a highly increased chance on herpes outbreaks(cold sores), because there is L-arginine in there, without L-lysine.

from my experience, which is limited to redbull, rockstar, and monster,
i liked rockstar the best. i thought monster was trash, not because it
wasn't energizing but because it tasted like concentrated evil mixed
with a hundred pounds of sugar. i like rockstar and rockstar cola, they
work good and the cola just tastes pretty much like normal coke.
speaking of coke, swim drank a few of these on the comedown and it made
it less shitty. they are also excellent for keeping you awake during
non-stimulant multiple day drug binges.

My short, stupid reviews of the ones I have tried (minus some that I
probably forgot to add)...
Red Bull: I used to drink these all the time. Can't really stand the taste
anymore though. Worked though.
Monster: Yuck. Way too sweet. Only tried it once. And had trouble
finishing the can (I think it was the green kind).
Lost: Has that standard "energy drink flavor" of Red Bull, etc...
Jolt Cola: For all the hype about this one, it didn't really do much for me,
even after drinking that entire big-ass can.
Sobe Adrenaline Rush: Taste was okay (orangey), but didn't do much.
Sobe No Fear: I like this one. Tastes pretty good (it's different... kind
of like fruit punch or something), and it works.
Full Throttle: Another favorite. Again, the taste isn't bad (reminds me
of grapefruit pop or something). It keeps me awake at work anyway.
Amp: Tastes like Mountain Dew. But it didn't really do much for me. I
suspect small can size has something to do with it.
XS: Tried various flavors of this one (they're sugar-free). Although they
tasted alright, they didn't really wake me up much.
Blue Ox
Rockstar: I'm not really big on cola flavored drinks, but this one works
well.
Sparks: You know, that alcoholic energy drink. Yuck... I have bad
memories of this one. For one, IMO it tastes really gross. If there was an
orange-flavored cough syrup, it would taste like this.
Wired X3000
Von Dutch: Has that same generic taste. Didn't work as well as some
of the others.
I just snort caffiene pills. :P

Sobe Adrenaline Rush is my vote for best tasting, citrus with a hint of passion fruit yum.
Otherwise I just buy whatever brand has gone out of business and is
being cleared out for 2 cans for a dollar, I'm not rich/stupid enough
to pay 2 bucks for a 8oz can.

I tried some of those, but found coffee to be the most effective and efficient. I drink coffee everyday, in the morning and afternoon and it gives me the kick I need. Sometimes I will add ground guarana seeds to my coffee grounds and make the coffee that way. I found that guarana gives a most stable caffiene kick that lasts longer. Buying a drink that is a dollar a can is completely stupid when you can obtain the ingredients so cheap.

man caffeine is so fucking fun, pop four energy pills, swig a redbull, lord i was so fucked up. anyway, thethree most worthy, as i have found,(ive tried amp, redbull, rip it, no fear, monster energy, go go go, plenty of offbrand shit, khm, etc.) are monster energy, no fear, and rip it. i find that rip it is dirt cheap and if pretty big(like the size of a no fear, 99 fucking cents, but isnt very strong.),no fear wires you very well, tastes ok, but is expensive.monster energy is my favorite overall. VEEERRY tasty, wires you very well, i think it is a little less thanno fear. but anyway, redbull is shit, amp is TRUE shit, gogogo sucks, khm is okay, etc)
sorry for babbling. anyway, monster energy frules. no fear is good, rip it is economical. choose what works for you.(also, when binging on energy drinks, be sure to drink plenty of water because dehydration is HELL.)

sobe no fear, altho ive far from tried all of them.
anyone know which one has the most caffeine per oz or whatever?
Yeah, as far as energy drinks, my only real concern is flavor. As
far as the HUGE energry boosts that people claim to have, I would chalk
it up mostly to placebo. That is not to say that caffeine is not
a powerful stimulant, or necessarily that I think all natural energy
boosters (ginseng, certain amino acids, etc) don't work, I just think
that many of those who purchase energy drinks have really built them up
in their minds. It's like, "Whoa! I'm not exactly sure what
ginseng is, and I've certainly never heard of L-Arginine, but this
stuff has those and like 24,000 other 'energy boosters.' This is
downright scientific, I can feel it already!" (Not meant to imply
that EVERYONE who drinks energy drinks is ignorant.) Simply put,
I think that the manufacturers have done a wonderful job of overloading
the consumer with all these ingredients with scientific sounding names
(not that the chemicals themselves do nothing, but not likely in the
doses given per energy drink). It is pretty enticing, I will
admit. Even when I see energy drinks that contain herbs that have
NOTHING to do with enhancing performance (example, an energy drink that
contained, among other things, kava kava (a relaxant) and St. John's
Wort) it does make me at least curious enough that I may buy the drink,
just with low expectations. The biggest piece of evidence for the
placebo effect regarding energy drinks is the fact that it's not
uncommon to have someone buzzing about and acting very energetic just
minutes after consuming the beverage. Caffeine doesn't reach peak
plasma levels for about 1 hour, so, clearly, that sort of pick me up
cannot be attributed to the drink. That's not to say that these
energy drinks are completely fraudulent, but I don't think they offer
much more than a strong cup of coffee (possibly containing or exceeding
the ~160mg/caf that monster provides) coupled with a decent knowledge
of supplements and a daily regimen with quality herbs and products.

You're forgetting the outrageous sugar content of many of these drinks.
A 8oz can of redbull has the same content as 16oz of coke, so yes they do provide an instant energy boost in blood sugar.

I agree with what you are saying. Most of those herbs, on their own, don't seem to be more effective than caffeine. I much prefer coffee over any energy drink because it's cheap and provides more stimulation. About that one hour peak though... When I have my morning coffee, I seem to get an almost emidiate feeling of waking up, and over the course of the hour the stimulation seems to decrease. Maybe thats just me, I don't know.
Coffee seems to have more caffiene anyways though. I think those energy drinks have between 70 and 140 mg of caffiene, while homebrewed coffee has between 150-200 mg of caffiene per cup. Hehe, I think energy drinks are just a fad though.
Diphenhydramine
04-07-2005, 18:48
That immediate feeling of waking up is probably due to the fact that
you're ingesting a hot liquid. Like a satisfaction, ahhh, that
feels good, time to start crackin'!
On a sidenote, is it true that hot liquids are absorbed into the
bloodstream quicker? Something about temperature and the
intestines?
I've yet to find an energy drink which actually "does anything". I guess I compare it all to coffee way too much but I just don't notice any difference when I drink redbull and such, even after 2+ cans.

That's weird as the main energy ingredient in these energy drinks is usually caffeine...Edited by: Cuberun
i don't like most energy drinks because most of them contain caffine, and caffine completely mellows me out. i like the lizzblizz sobe quite a bit, anything pina collada i love. does caffine calm anyone else out there? it wakes me up, but calmes me at the same time.

Depends on what kinda coffee you are drinking. Instant tends to have around 80 mg of caffeine while brewed can have around 2oo mg.

The best one that I have come across is Visoda. Its got all the
vitimens of a once a day and 300mgs of caffine. Although the best has
got to be triple brewed Yerba mate and gensang iced with chai. Only
drink that I can say got me spun.
Diphenhydramine

Triple brewed? As in make a pot, then boil it again using fresh
mate, and then again using more fresh mate? I usually just fill
my pot up at least halfway (I use a french press) and repeatedly add
hot water, until I no longer taste the mate. This is for mate
sessions among my friends, or on late nights by myself. Please
post a recipe man, sounds good!
EAS piranha is the best for me.

I don't know much about those last 5, I looked em up on erowid and they
seem very good for you. Anyway, any more information on this nice combo
would be nice. Thanks.
Funny, caffeine doesn't do much for me anymore... anyone who's used strong stimulants like coke or speed will realize what a joke caffeine really is.
Anyways, here's a small excerpt from "How Stuff Works" (copied under Int'l "fair use" laws):
To a nerve cell, caffeine looks like adenosine. Caffeine therefore binds to the adenosine receptor. However, it doesn't slow down the cell's activity like adenosine would. So the cell cannot "see" adenosine anymore because caffeine is taking up all the receptors adenosine binds to. So instead of slowing down because of the adenosine level, the cells speed up.
So now you have increased neuron firing in the brain. The pituitary gland sees all of the activity and thinks some sort of emergency must be occurring, so it releases hormones that tell the adrenal glands to produce adrenaline (epinephrine).
Here's another quote that almost made me laugh out loud:
Caffeine also increases dopamine levels in the same way that amphetamines do (heroine and cocaine also manipulate dopamine levels by slowing down the rate of dopamine re-uptake).
If caffeine had much effect on dopamine, it would produce a strong euphoric high like speed or coke, obviously it does not.
P.S. I've done the ginseng thing, the most stimulating stuff is probably Korean White or Chinese Red. Seems to make me feel more agitated than stimulated, so I don't use it anymore.Edited by: Nicaine

Caffiene does increase dopamine levels, but this increase is very small. For most people, this increase would be hard to detect.

redline by vpxsports is the strongest i've had and legal. this austrailian or japanesse one keeps you up for 2-3 days and has meth like symptoms. a friend took this and was up for 70+hours, he claimed he was seeing things out the corner of his eyes. (shadow people)

Anything with legal ingredients (such as caffeine, theobromine,
theophyline, ephedra, etc.) that is strong enough to do that to a
person, is unhealthy, plain and simple.
The physical stimulation a body would need to endure from any of these
ingredients to give 70+ hours of mental effects, is just not good for a
human body. This is just common sense, which unfortunately is a
precious comodity that is lacking in way too many people these days.

I agree that redline by vpx is the best stuff on the market in california, now that ephedrine is banned as a supplement. The best energy drinks are the ones your going to find at your gym or vitamin store. They are way stronger than redbull and the like.

REDLINE is by far the best IMO. Very strong. For me it was like a 2 hour low dose of amphetamine. Pretty strong shit. Heart was pounding, sweating, full of concentration. Potent stuff. This was on a can and a half. They only recomennd a half the first time.
So far Iv tried , Red Bull , RockStar , Red Jak , Monster , Sparks , crunk , pimp juice , full throttle , sobe , no fear , lost , amp , kronik , and tab. I would have to say over all RockStar is the best next would have to be kronik one of my new favorite energy drinks and crunk or red bull as a third choice and thats as far as energy goes . As for taste Tab energy drink is the best , I just started drinking them and its gotten to the point where Im drinking them just for the taste.Tab energy drinks kinda taste like those chalkey violet candys if you've ever had 'em , if you haven't then its really hard to describe what tab tastes like. The worst tasting energy drink would have to be mountain dews amp , this shit tastes like absolute poison , so does no fear , and full throttle . But thats just my opinion . Im also looking into trying out these energy drinks from a local tai market , I believe they are called panther energy and they are something like 50 cents for a small can.

I'd rather just have coffee, since energy drinks don't seem to do much for me. It is nice that rockstars have milk thistle in them, since often the consumer's lifestyle leads to liver damage that the milk thistle could help alleviate, if the dose is high enough. Also heating rockstar isnt too bad on cold days, it ends up tasting like apple cider. Disgusting in theory, but delicious in practice.

Homemade energy drinks can be fun, but possibly too much work and cash for the punch given. Taurine, caffiene, and theobromine powder are are readily available in some health food stores (on-line and otherwise). SWIM has come to enjoy combinations of citrus juices, everclear, and the previously mentioned powders.
In my opinion, Mountain Dew Amp energy drink is the most enjoyable energy drink one can buy in most gas stations.
In my opinion, adding amphetimines, painkillers, and psychadelics to drinks do not make them energy drinks. However, SWIM thinks that these mixes are a fun way to consume amphetemines, psychadelics, and painkillers. Be aware of the properties of the substances you are adding to drinks! Noone likes to waste precious psychotropic substances by allowing them to break down in solutions in which they aren't stable!

For tastes, it has to be Bawls! Undescribeable taste, but it's really good.
For energy, it has to be Redline. It is a mix of caffeine and low dose of yohimbe hcl.
i used to make "Sewer Water" which included:
1000mg of Caffeine
125mg of Ephedrine
150mg of Diphenhydramine
All contained in a liter of sparkling no sugar added water with flavor
I would drink this over the course of a day to stay alive after hangovers etc.

Strongest energy drink I,ve tried was AMMO with BZP, unfortunetly it also contained Aspartane (toxic artifical sweetner) which caused too much anxiety for me.
Why in hell anyone would be worried about sugar content when consuming BZP is beyond me. But most energy drinks contain far too much sugar anyway (I believe red bull contains about 15 teaspoons). I would love for someone to make an energydrink with Stevia.
Two Energy drinks worth a try from New Zealand are V and Ganja, the later with Hemp Oil. Both taste great and do give a mild lift without feeling stimulated.
The Energydrink I would create in a perfect world - Cocaine, Kolanut, Stevia, Vit C, B complex, L-tyrosine:)

I know it's been discussed but I want to send a little warning to people who are naturally hyper or energetic... I tried both monster and red bull with Grey Goose vodka. The taste was great, the buzz was GREAT. Of course, that brought us to the fact already stated, that it seemingly decreases the effects of alcohol, making one think he can drink more and more. I did, and I paid for it with an enraged black-out in a club... Nothing violent except apparently I was screaming at some people and basically being hilarious and scary at the same time... My cohorts were laughing and looking uneasy at the same time. Luckily they got me out of there before I did something bad, expected from a blacked out drunk. It is good stuff but if you have a temper or maybe are a little bit hyper then I'd stay away from it, which I've done ever since. Only have a couple shot's worth of vodka your first time so you can gauge your response better than I did... Enjoy, be smart and be safe!
I see Energy drinks as a market to get something XTREME with the drug like illusion for 12 year olds. The fact that no one I know who likes those can tell me what Taurine is might be sad, but make a joke out of it! "Taurine? oh yea, thats the new meth like caffiene!"

Anything with NO2 in it will keep swiy going for 12 hours. It is a hemodialator, which dilates the blood vessels and thereby increases blood flow and energy. It can be gotten at health food stores or general nutrition centers. Bodybuilders use it to keep a pump going in the muscles. Swim has been told by males that it helps "pump" ALL the muscles, kind of like Viagra but for a longer period of time. Swim has seen this with her own two eyes.

Ehh..doesn't really keep you going for 12 hours. It's a little energizing, but not stimulating at all. Also not gonna find it in an energy drinks because the doses are too high. It is however a decent supplement IMO, although advertised and promoted way too much (especially by GNC). It increases vascularity and does give a constant pump, which can actually get in the way sometimes. Also got more cardiovascular endurance.

redbull was banned in some countries indeed. and its very unpopular in a lot of places, because other energy drink producers spread the rumor that redbull contains bull semen...sick idea i know, probably so many people believe this because the substance taurine is often linked to "taurus", the latin word for bull.

Any idea of the reason behind the ban? Taurine?
Ridiculously, it wasn't taurine. Denmark, Malaysia and France banned Red Bull because of concerns regarding its high caffeine content...even if the main energy in Red Bull doesn't come from caffeine. How can those countries ban a beverage for the (official) reason that it contains 80mg caffeine per can? That's half the amount of caffeine than coffee.
Another concern is even more ridiculous...sugar. Red Bull contains 5 teaspoons of sugar per 250ml.
This can't be incompetence anymore. This is just another example of business-led government.
I like the sugar free Monster energy drink in the blue and black can. The stimulation is nice and clean, but potent.

I drank the redline without even thinking about it, and within 10 minutes I was getting hot/cold flashes, my stomach was hurting, and I was dizzy. I tried eating something, but it was too late by this point; it just made my stomach ache worse. So I guess the moral of the story is don't f#*k with redline, and read the warnings on the bottle!*

If you're looking for a little pick me up, try celastrus oil!

Any idea of the reason behind the ban? Taurine?
It's banned probably because the original formula which contained, not sure, but it killed people. Since, they think anything legal can be abused without consequence. But also because in small doses raised heart rate and blood pressure to the max, which would be a no brainer but really really bad. More so then other energy drinks. Red Bull's then came out with a warning label untill they just finally removed the certain chemical and replaced it with another. Also you would have to be 18+ to buy it. Not really sure if they still include a warning. Maybe, just maybe, that certain chemical was ephedrine, but that's just speculation. Note, I heard this on the news and read it in some articles long long ago.
Anyways, no energy drink works. For some who are very sensitive they do, but for most they dont. But Monster energy has to be the best tasteing, that i've tryed. As for energy, nope.:crazy

Many of the posts above state quite the opposite to this statement. While the basic caffiene based ones like RedBull may only have a sutle effect, more specialized energy drinks like RedLine RTD have a very pronounced effect for many people.

I think 'Relentless' is the best in the UK. It's about double the size of any other drink with more than a couple of stimulants in it. Tastes very good too.
Often one bottle of Redline RTD is a tad to much and gives some overstimulation. 2/3rd normally does it. I have to see the first drink that even comes close to this.
Cocaine - www.drinkcocaine.com It has to be the worst tasting energy drink out there, but in terms of effectiveness, it is unrivaled. Not that it's so amazing or anything, it's just better than anything else out there.
Well I dont know what he is doing in it now, but it was pretty weak a few years ago.

Its got 280mg caffeine per can, which is probably where most of its effect comes from. But it also uses dextrose instead of normal sucrose, which should make for a slightly better energy boost. I haven't tried Redline yet though, I think I might pick some up today. By far the best legal energy supplement is Ergopharm's Amp pills though. Especially if combined with Avant Lab's H.E.A.T.

Your right, but Smurf has never seen these at normal stores. Maybe at GNC or a store like that. Smurf manly was talking about the one's you can find easily. One thing that's a major factor for that drink is the Yohimbine, only other energy drink i've seen to have that and has a popular brand would be Sobe. Then it has loads of caffeine\like substances. Smurf will have to try this drink if he can find it somewhere other then the internet\health food stores. Hopefully it gives him some type of energy.

Swim just this morning tried the Dymatize Liquid Speed mentioned above and was very impressed. Swim does not have access to Redline RTD due to Yohimbine being a prescription medicine here, so Liquid Speed was the strongest alternative Swim could find.
Swim drank one whole bottle of the citrus blast flavoured liquid speed, which tasted strong, but ok, kindof like a cordial with too much flavour added.
Effects came on quickly, swim felt a lift within 10-20 minutes. This got stronger and peaked at about 1hr. Effects lasted 4 hrs. Swim was definetly amped up, he found it hard to sit still and got a mild case of the shakes. This was much stronger than caffiene, but also quite a bit smoother / less jittery.
This product is aimed at the weight lifting crowd, whereas swim was using it purely recreationally. Swim did find it a bit hard to focus mentally but had great psysical energy and would highly recomend this for those hitting the dance floor or doing hard labour as opposed to finishing that assignment.

That's because you are dear boy, & will be or less until you relax, read, understand & use the The rules of drugs-forum (http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/announcement.php?f=43&a=1)
Be consistent in the use of SWiM or equivalent (nice one for editing the sig though!).

none because there all way over priced. 2 bucks for a can of caffiene is not worth it.
of course you get some nice b12 and a few other aminos, but seriously there all so under dosed all you really feel is the caf. and the turiene(sp).
Well, NO2 did keep ME going for 12 hours but I have ADHD anyway. Being a female, the "pumps" didn't get in my way, either. I found the stuff very stimulating. My lips got all numb and tingly and I felt like I was hooked up to an electric wire. Too bad if it doesn't work that way for others.
Energy drinks are bullshit, 90%+ of the rush is from caffeine and you'd be much better off just popping some caffeine pills. They're cheaper, more efficient, easier on the stomach, and better for you. That being said I try to avoid excessive caffeine in any form these days, I feel much less jumpy.
i love amps...especially the new ones (the red can)

No one has mentioned RED LINE
Start with one bottle, it has some serious fucking kick. They put some mix of herb extracts, one of the major ones being yohimbine HCL, from yohimbe, and they got the mix pretty right.
For some people redline is a little too strong, some don't feel it much more than an energy drink, but for many its incredibly good feeling, and slightly euphoric even.
You can buy it at a body building store or something.
It makes all that "wired" stuff look like bullshit IMO. A friend uses redline when she can't get her ice.

I find that rockstar has the best taste, and as I don't want to get to serious with the caffeine, the highest enjoyable level of kick that I have tried.
I weigh about 115, and have an extremely low tolerence for caffeine, and after a middle size can (24 oz) I'm jumping around, being really sociable, picking fights with people, sidewalks, etc..
I ought to stop by wallgreens or the vitamin shoppe, and try out 5 hour energy though, I hear it's the shit.
I will say, also, I used to have a coke a day, and when that was going on, I had a much higher tolerance for caffeine, I cut down to about 2 a week, and that helped a lot.
The best one Stan ever had was called "Flying Horse". He stole hundreds of them just for the taste. It tasted like raspberries, and with a pinch of amphetamine in it, it makes for a great energy drink! Or maybe it was just the amphetamine.... ^^
I found a comprehensive list of caffeine based soft drinks.
http://www.energyfiend.com/the-caffeine-database/
I clicked on the button to rank them by caffeine content and found an unholy monster called Fixx:
A 20 ounce bottle of Fixx contains 500 milligrams of caffeine.
Fixx is an energy drink aimed at those who engage in serious exercise. The drink also contains 5-HTP, Taurine, Mucuna Pruriens.

This article would seem to totally support your opinion.

Sounds like rocket fuel. Especially the concentrated syrup version.
I'm curious to try this stuff myself. The cAMP in it is an interesting ingredient, although the rest of the supplements make quite a interesting blend in their own right.

My favorite is NOS, mostly because of the taste, but I also like the Wired tropical in the yellow cans.
