Been drinking for too long....... Have to stop today !!!!!!http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
The last time I stopped was several years ago. I stopped for 30 days just to see if I could do it. I did. It didnt seem that hard back then.Edited by: thehappyman
If you did once you can do it again. The thing is how much you
been drinking the last seven years? Alchohol withdrawal symptoms are
some of the worst. Convulsions are possible if your seriously
alchoholic.
But as with anything else,IMO, its as hard as you make it to stop. If
you expect hell on earth thats what your gonna get. If you say to
yourself this is gonna suck but I been through worse its that much
easier.

Just keep in mind that stoping cold-turkey after long periods of heavy daily use can be dangerous, even lethal in some cases.

The last two times I have stopped there were only very mild withdrawl symptoms.....
Dosent the severity of the withdrawl depend upon your unique body chemistry ????
How soon after stopping would one expect to feel the withdrawl ??? And do you think there would be a withdrawl at all from say 5 Drinks a night ??????Edited by: thehappyman
From what I've been told by people significantly more qualified than me, alcohol withdrawl is more likely to be fatal than almost all other drug withdrawls and must be treated by professionals. This, however, is obviously only the case for extremely heavy drinkers.
I would consider myself an alcololic in the sense that I have habituated myself into drinking every day. This doesn't make me particularly exceptional. But I have on occaision been able to prove to myself that I am able to function without alcohol, it is however very difficult to make such a break in your habits when a large part of your social life revolves around it. Often with less socially prevalent drugs it is easier to remove yourself from the environment which might draw you back into unwanted patterns of use.
There are many addicts out there that go unnoticed because they can function unobtrusively within society by managing their consumption and having a steady supply available. This is especially the case with alcohol, a drug which while it may be one of the most destructive around psychologically and physically does not carry the pariah status that many other drugs do.
In answer to the original question I found giving up alcohol physically easy .But I found continuous sobriety left a large hole in my life which required great imagination to fill.

Its not all that hard if you just dont hang out with ppl that do it. Its kind of a extreme but it works better than good intentions.
