View Full Version : Ex-Alcoholic now into other things.
Hey, swim used to be really bad with alcohol. haven't drank since jan.18th. went to rehab. alcohol really took a control of swims's life. was never able to be social with it. now as far as other substances, swim can control them.(except uppers(meth, coke, crack)). swim's done every drug under the sun practically. now swim just wants to stick to opiates/benzos/shrooms. and only on his days off. so far swims been able to do this. has other people been able to do this? stop their drug of choice, and do something else recreationally? everyone needs to blow some steam. sometimes life just feels too frustrating and a relaxation time is in order.

SWIM used to be an alcoholic. As soon as he finished work he'd get a can of cider for the journey home and not stop till he passed out - any booze would do. Wake up the next day, always with a bitching hangover, and go to work. At some points he smoked loads of weed and even got into doing small amounts of shrooms after work, but booze was the constant.
Luckily, he's over that now. He didn't go to rehab, although he can understand why people do. He just reached a point when he was seriously depressed and felt physically that there was something very, very wrong with him. He was being sick all the time, gasping for breath, sweating and just felt like he was going to die.
Now his "method" is pretty much what SWI-Vagisil said: get wasted but on lots of different drugs. He also has found the value of exercise which means he's not fucked everyday.

Exactly. SWIM still drinks now and then, and when he does he nearly always gets massively drunk, but the dark days are over for him. Thank Christ!

Swim thought she was doing this for a small amount of time after finally managing to stop the drink but really she just switched it with something arguably worse, heroin. :(

My advice to you would be to abstain from all mind altering substances for a good amount of time until you feel you are right mentally. This will allow you to take it all in and make some rational decisions. If and when you feel the time is right then you might be able to use again but I highly recommend you stay away from anything that could kill you and anything that is addictive. Especially stay away from benzos and opiates. If alcohol caused problems the those two are highly likely to cause problems

SWIM, being an ex DXM addict, has been able to use his drugs of choice (opiates/benzos/marijuana) only on the weekends (every weekend) for about 2 years now & doesn't see his drug use as a problem just because SWIM knows when enough is enough & how to allow time in-between drug uses to avoid tolerance/addiction...but it takes a level of self discipline/responsibility/knowledge/control that most ppl in todays society just dont have.
Every drug has the potential to become an addiction & ultimately fuck some1s life up. Sometimes it takes some1 who has been addicted to drugs to realize the concept of moderation, but again not too many realize or exercise this concept so SWIM, 4 that reason, can't recomend using drugs frequently to an alcoholic.
you wont be able to keep opiates to a weekend thing. psychedelics are your best bet for avoiding addiction. but use them for the right reason, of course.

That depends more on the person than the fact that Opiates are viewed as highly addictive (any drug has the potential to become an addiction).

SWIM agrees with Herbal Healer 100%!!! SWIM is an occassional meth user and agrees with everything you've said!
Each person is different, and what one can successfully abstain from another can't!
SWIM recently stopped drinking almost altogether, as she did some serious reflection and realized alcohol was the drug that was worst of all for her. Alcohol was her catalyst for all kinds of bad behavior.
SWIM smokes weed daily and never intends to change that. SWIM doesn't plan to always do meth occassionally, as she's picked up and put down meth in the past. Coke on the other hand, SWIM stays far away from and knows for HER Coke is very dangerous.
Everyone has their weaknesses, it's recognizing what they are and being able to stay away from the drugs that can lead you down a bad, bad road.
SWIM does think however, that if the OP was in rehab, that they most likely have the tendency for addiction period. Substituting one addiction for another could quite possibly land you right back to rehab!
Hi,
The stuff applied over here is really great. I am overwhelmed by the new thought applied by the person who posted the thread over here.
