I have been scripted for xanax to take "as needed" and its really easy to keep taking them because of their short life. I want something that lasts alot longer so i'm thinking about talking to my doctor about Valium. Does anyone have experience with Valium who has anxiety? (not talking about recreationaly)

It's better to refer to the drug's name not the brand name since this is a worldwide forum.

Alprazolam(xanax) works a lot quicker and can be used without leaving you tired the next day so it is often preffered over diazepam(valium) which takes a while to act and swiy will still feel the after effects the next day.
If swiy wants a longer acting benzodiazepine, swim would suggest either Clonazepam(Klonopin) or Lorazepam(ativan). They both are considered medium acting benzodiazepines and do a really great job of getting rid of anxiety without taking as much and unless a lot is taken should not leave swiy feeling very high.

SWIM would agree that Clonazepam would be a better option than either for what you are looking for.

Clonazepam FTW!....but seriously stuff is physically addicting as shit. In SWIM's opinion diazepam just isn't as good.

Go for ativan, swim knows lots of people who have had scrips and don't know anyone who has become addicted. Also, it lasts about as long as Klonopin and swiy can take it twice a day on a schedule and be set.
hope that helps

Xanax XR (Alprazolam Extended-Release) would probably be the best option if SWIY is solely looking for anxiety/panic relief (and not euphoria). It's fairly easy to get a script for it, since it has little potential for abuse (unless combined with hard liquor, it takes about 8 mgs to feel "xaned-out", and its pretty expensive, so abusing it is a huge waste of medicine and money).
SWIM is prescribed 1 mg, one dose in the morning, and another before bed. However, 1 mg of XR only COMPLETELY prevents panic attacks for SWIM, he still feels somewhat anxious in social situations, so he's going to talk to his docter about increasing his dosage to 2 mgs (the Extended Release mg amounts range from .5mg-3mgs).
Anxiety is a bitch, SWIM hopes this helps SWIY
has one asked their Dr? The Dr probally has a better opinion since they know your body and you better than random people. For swib xanax makes one black out, good for sleeping not fuzzy the next day. Valium just knocks swib, out fuzzy the next day. Clonazepam works well for anxiety for swib where there is no blackout/passout. To each their own

swim is prescribed lorazapam on a use as needed basis for GAD and seems to work quite well...but be warned ALL benzos can be highly addictive and coming off them is far from fun and games!!!!
What type of anxiety are we talking about here, and how does it tend to manifest itself? Its typically not a one-size-fits-all game with benzos and anxiety disorders, and different substances may work better for different people depending on the specific difficulties they face.
