Is there any way to make yourself forget something that
happened? I've heard of people subconciously suppressing memories of
bad things that happen to them but I was just wondering if it was
possible to do this on purpose and if so, how.
Thanks.

drown it with memories of other things man or vent some to someone and you will probably never want to mention it again so you will not think about it or it just takes time get a hobby

Make up a new memory and keep telling yourself that it happened, instead of the bad one. If you do this while drinking, and keep at it for a while, you'll start to forget what actually happened and replace it with the new memory. Works for me anyways.

I don't agree to cover it up. It happened, it's part of your life,...deal with it, don't let them take up the space in yr mind! *should take her own advice ;) )
seriously tho, jus mask em up wth booze n it will come back

I could never figure out how, best just to assume its a learning experience and let it go at that. Otherwise its just something that'll eat you up. Plus, be DAMN glad you remember things. If you've ever had a black out night? You can't remember at all what you did and have to rely on your friends telling you the stupid stuff you did. Well, I don't think theres anything worst than that. I had a couple of those, after a really stupid story where I pretty much made a total ass of myself, I learned to cut back a lot. Anytime i go out drinking now I stick toa limit. But just be soooo glad you can remember. Nothing worst than others telling you how dumb you were.
I'm not sure that taking to the bottle is the way to go about suppressing memories... just like i was always taught in health and all the other school classes is if u do a drug to get away from a problem, after you've come down from the drug, that problem is still there. so my advice is to find something healthy to take your mind off it.. if it's a memory that makes you mad then get a punching bag, go to town on it... or vent to a friend this always helps me. and after you've gotten pissed/vented about it, go out and it's party time

Okay man, let me tell it to you how it was for me. There is no real way to supress your bad memories until you get over them..You can use drugs to supress them for a small amount of time, but they'll always come back unless you get over it yourself and realize that everything's going to be okay.
I did drugs for 2 years trying to make my depression go away, and it did, but it was me who made the choice to help me get over it. And how did I try to help my self? Pot and Alcohol.
Alcohol and Marijuana every day for 2 years wont cure depression, but it will make it seem like a breeze while your high. You dont think about your problems when you're completly drunk, and the next day having a hangover is WAY better than feeling normal and depressed.
You just need to get over your bad memories, try taking antidepressants, or going to a shrink if it's really bad, like I should have done. Cause you gotta remember if you do certin drugs while your depressed, you're just asking for a bad time..Edited by: Psilocybe S.
And why is that? If you give advise, please explain it. Otherwise itīs of no use.Edited by: Alfa

Oh I've heard of nootropil, I always thought it was the Russian name for something though. Hm. I think we have that in my house.</font>
I was once told how to supress memories by a friend. And it worked, I could forget anything I wanted. However, I forgot how to do it.http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

nootropil can help you
Seriously? I thought Nootropil (piracetam) used for things more
along the lines of muscle spasms and senility... maybe I'm wrong.
Piracetam is used to enhance your memory, not to surpress it.
