swims father is in his fifties and is prescribed some type of benzo. Not sure what though. They haven't caused him any harm that i know of.
If they are used as directed the 55 year old mother should be ok. She may want to watch out if she has liver or kidney problems or maybe low blood pressure. That is just a guess though.
The vast majority of prescriptions for pharmaceuticals like alprazolam, or other gentle benzos, are for people over 30. There is no great heart strain or toxicity danger, though the tendency towards addiction does increase with age with benzos. Mixing with alcohol drastically increases this risk as well.
shampoo, do you have a source for the statement regarding tendency toward addiction in older persons? I'd be interested

SWIG has found a statement that the younger you are, the more successful your withdrawal from a benzodiazepine is likely to be - and this is supposedly NOT due to the fact that you're likely to have taken benzos for a lesser amount of time. (good ol' benzo.org).

A paper title would be nice too, Shampoo ;)

She suffers from tinnitus and stress?
My 87 year old grandma has been taking lorazepam to sleep for over 2 years. She's doing as well as she ever has.

SWIM would suggest a pill record. PPL don't understand the effects of the benzos effects when mixed with a lot of different things.
A record helps match things up if needed. SWIM has needed it b4.
Regards.
