More tragedy in swims life. His gf went to Florida to see her family for the holidays.Last saturday she told swim she had thoughts of severely hurting herself. This worried swim as afterwards she disappeared offline.About an hour later swim calls her,no answer.Swim is naturally worried. He tries calling the next day no answer, then the next, the next again. Finally today she calls and tells him she was in the hospital, the psych ward.Tonight he managed to talk to her online. She turned on her webcam and looked VERY out of it.She could hardly type and after saying she was dizzy from some medicine and that she loved swim sort of disappeared.Wtf are they giving her? This can not be good. This is not the way to treat someone, turn them into a zombie? Is that really the way to help?Swim is very concerned. No wonder swim has grey hair at 29:(

Could be anything from Lorazepam or another benzodiazepine to an antipsychotic (typical or atypical). If she was in extreme distress there may have been need for rapid sedation (which could mean a high dose Lorazepam orally, as the time to take effect orally & I.M. is about the same, or a longer acting dose of antipsychotic intramuscular) - although harsh & distressing for all involved, this is by far a better option than allowing her to harm herself (by "severely harm herself", I'm guessing you mean a suicide attempt rather than a major cutting session?) or leaving her in a state of complete mental turmoil. The effects will wear off, & if she is seen to be over-sedated then the dose should be adjusted accordingly.

I'd hope this level of medication would be a crisis measure only, unless she has actually had a psychotic episode. Interventions such as this don't have a good success rate when dealing with self-harm unless there is an underlying & directly treatable diagnosis.

swim is very sorry to hear this. winter and the holidays seem to be a tough time for a lot of people. as said above it was probably a benzodiazepine or antipsychotic. these can't do much harm and have most likely helped the situation. swim would wonder what would have happened if medication was not given. that may have been the more immoral and worst thing that could have happened. it may have saved her. swim definately understands swiy and his feelings of some random medication being given to his significant other but it was most likely for the better. but this is just swims opinion. good luck to the both of you.
