addictive personality
hey guys
i have a personal issue here, related to addiction, and I would really like to love your thoughts on it. well,I have a addictive personality : I will become addictive to all the things that motivate me (I have always had a motivation problem aswell : not too many things do motivate me) how normal is this? any advices? any thoughts on it? this non-motivation thing is fucking me up. |

Re: addictive personality
perhaps swiy has ADHD and finds trouble concentrating when not on one drug or another? This of course would make it much more difficult to motivate one's self, being that the task is a much larger one to accomplish than for most-- it'd also make swiy much more likely to want various motivating substances to help them accomplish what they need to do... just a thought

Re: addictive personality
Perhaps SWIY just needs some confidence. Starting with kicking small addictions and then rising up through the harder ones is always a good way of dealing with problems such as these.

Re: addictive personality
sorry
maybe I wasn't clear enough the addiction is no the problem..I like being addicted to stuff, and it's not such an uncontrollable addiction..I can leave them the problem is not much stuff do motivate me...this is why I get addicted to stuff, cause there are few I don't really have confidence or concentration problems. |

Re: addictive personality
in that case I'm gonna go on a limb here and reference my psych class. An addictive personality would be less likely to let you leave your addictions as easily as you suggest, so I doubt this is your problem- It could be, however, that you and swim share something in common; there is a personality trait known as sensation seeking, where intense and sometimes risk taking experiences are sought out for the mere feelings they bring. These can be the intense rush of dopamine release, the bizarre universes via psychedelics or the feeling of air against your face as you jump out of an airplane for some examples.
sound like you? I don't doubt a lot of this board has this trait |

Re: addictive personality
I am a sensation seeker indeed.
But only few things make me feel well... This is because I'm very very critical..I think most of stuff to do is shit. |

Re: addictive personality
Perhaps try to seek out the simple pleasures in life, as its not all that bad! or find something that swiy enojys doing.
Swim used to think the day would be crap if there wasnt something to get high on, until she realised that there was more to life than taking drugs and it wasnt all about swim. Swim gets great pleasure for giving pleasure, lol if you know what i mean :S |

Re: addictive personality
Try recreational, physical activities that do not require substances. Swiy thinks they need chemicals to have fun, but there are so many other options. They should go make friends, get laid, live life, and take their chems to relax and ejoy themself, not to function right. People who are that addictive play a big role in the criminalization of drugs, ruining it for the responsible druggies like swim.

Re: addictive personality
well,I read some stuff on adhd, depression, personality traits and personality patologies.
and most of what I read was ABSOLUTE SHIT.I mean...it's not even a decent way to categorize people I have some of the symptoms for lots of stuff mentioned on these websites I visited, but I didn't fit with any of them, actually I think I need to live only. Life always teaches x) |

Re: addictive personality
Are you opposed to talk to a doctor about it? I didn't realize I was depressed. Just drinking to oblivion every day for 10 years. Kicked the booze and got on a SSRI and was shocked. I didn't know how bad I was feeling - until I felt better. Alot better. And I started loving to do all sorts of stuff again. My motivation came back. Passions for stuff I used to love came back.
How long can you go without using anything? |

Re: addictive personality
Depression is one of those funny things where you can't see the forest for the trees . . .
NIK was never able to recognize the extent of his depression until looking backwards after 18 months of successful treatment with SNRIs. FC |
