Crusty Nose - Possibly due to combination of drugs and ileness

SWIM has been snorting Methylphenidate for over 2 years, maybe even 3 years. He has had no problems until lately. SWIM has had a bad cough, stuffy nose and other sypmtoms relating to a cold. he has been taking 250mg codeine per night along with 50mg dimenhydrinate, last night he took 270mg DXM (No effects BTW), as he ran out of Codeine. he has been taking the codeine for the last two nights but had done it 6 nights in a row 2 weeks previously. he has been taking Paracetamol regularly over the last couple of weeks also. overall he has had a hell of a cold (He accepts none of this medication in these doses would help him it reality but seems to have used his cold as an oppertunity to consume large amounts of codeine nightly). SWIM normally does 20 - 40mg Ritalin snorted nightly and 20mg oral during the day. Since he started using the codiene again his nose is getting crusty inside and round the septum. SWIM knows the best option is to cut out snorting for a brief period of at least a week until the nose can repair. SWIM wants to know if this is more likely to be realted to the mixing of drugs and illness or just the illness alone? SWIM is lucky in the fact he hasnt had any nasal problems up until now. With his illness he takes the codeine to get rid of pain he is getting in his chest and to get good sleep. At this point he basically need tips to abstain from ritalin for at least a couple of days. by the way SWIM has managed to cut down from a packet of fags a day to just 1 or 2 cigarettes to reduce coughing, pain etc...

codeine has a higher bioavailbility when eaten i think.so your better off eating them.try that and see if this helps.

Ah SWIM wasn´t exactly clear in his words. The codeine is via oral only.

hmm i dont know,once when i was prescribed to seraquel my nose was horrible clogged which bothered me due to my strong feelings towered being able to smell things.

SWIM's had a good long shower, cleared out his nose, had a cigarette and took his 250mg codeine, he feels a lot better now, nose seems to have decrusted overall, he has took the initiative to try to stay off the insufflated ritalin for a couple of days or at least until this cold wears off. a new problem which he is trying to resolve is that h blew his nose so hard his ears(inside) have popped outwards, he is still trying to rectify this in one ear by sucking inwards with his nose pinched. when he blew his nose there was a high pitched whisteling in his ears before they popped outwads. he will not use as much force to blow his nose in the future. (what an idiot SWIM seems to be lately).
