Ultimate Ibogaine Thread
I found this article on an Ibogaine Therapy Website and found it to be very informative and helpful. I will paste the article and there are some more helpful links about Ibogaine at the bottom of the page. Mods if I have done some kind of copyright infringement by posting this please edit it and fix it.
About Ibogaine Therapy Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive plant alkaloid. It is sourced from the roots of the plant Tabernanthe Iboga that grows in the forests of West Africa where it has a long history of being used traditionally as a catalyst for spiritual exploration and healing by the African Bwiti culture.************************************************** ********* ************************************************** ********* Ibogaine-assisted DetoxificationIn 1963, Howard Lotsof discovered it to be effective in significantly reducing the symptoms of withdrawal from chemical dependence as well as a promising tool for psychotherapeutic exploration. Ibogaine has no potential for abuse and has been demonstrated to be useful as a novel pharmacotherapeutic detoxification method for chemical dependence through a single dose. It halts or attenuates chemical dependence through two processes: The first process is the attenuation of withdrawal symptoms, the reduction of craving and the promotion of sustained periods of abstinence or reduced use. The second component is a subjective experience in which the person may undergo processes by which their life and choices are examined and re-assessed. This may be considered a psychotherapeutic adjunct. Many who have used ibogaine for this purpose have attested to its healing properties in this regard. Ibogaine also has long lasting properties. It breaks down in the liver into a metabolite called nor-ibogaine. This metabolite has been shown in clinical research to prevent cravings and has antidepressant effects that may last for several weeks or more after a single dose in some individuals. ![]() There has been a wealth of research into its effects. A literature review of ibogaine research that details evidence of efficacy in human and animal research, effects on neurotransmitters, subjective effects, and models of action has been published in the The Alkaloids, Volume 56 by Dr. Kenneth R. Alper of NYU and Stanley D. Glick of Albany Medical College. Current ibogaine therapists and researchers understand that while ibogaine is an effective detoxification tool for reducing withdrawal and is useful in addiction therapy, it is not a “cure” and works best in conjunction with well-defined therapeutic goals, adequate preparation, proper monitoring during the experience and integration into existing treatment options for aftercare. The Iboga Therapy House provides ibogaine-assisted therapy for addiction and dependence to substances such as heroin, methadone and other opiates, cocaine, crack, and alcohol. Our therapy procedures are based on the Manual for Ibogaine Therapy: Screening, Safety, Monitoring & Aftercare,Second Revision by Howard S. Lotsof & Boaz Wachtel and are modeled on the best practices of an ever-evolving body of knowledge. Our 5 day program is based on a holistic and innovative health promotion, harm reduction and resiliency-building therapy model that fosters support in a non-judgmental atmosphere aimed at empowering people to improve their quality of life. Support and assistance is provided to participants through the detoxification phase 24 hours a day throughout the program. We offer an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to evaluating the potential benefits of ibogaine-assisted detoxification and will examine its contribution to the reduction of harms associated with problematic substance use and chemical dependence when delivered within a Health Promotion and Harm Reduction Therapy model. Psychotherapeutic Use of Ibogaine From time immemorial, indigenous and shamanic cultures have been using psychoactive medicinal plants in ceremonies for personal healing, psychotherapy and spiritual purposes. The intentional use of these plants is intended to effect the opening of one's mind, to increase the capacity for a range of perceptions that are normally inaccessible, to expand awareness, increase consciousness of the wonders of life and to connect to the divine in one's self, in nature and the cosmos. From its African origins as a tool used for spiritual purposes in ceremonial practices and as a healing medicine, ibogaine has also been found to be useful in the western world as a powerful tool for psychotherapeutic exploration. Ibogaine is a very potent psychoactive that used in an appropriate context of specific therapeutic intention and in a safe setting may provide an experience that can be very healing and cathartic on many levels. It is considered an oneirogen; a substance that elicits a waking dream-like phenomenon without loss of consciousness or change in the perception of the environment or any illusions or formal deterioration of thought and without depersonalization. A state also known as Oneirophrenia: From the Greek words "oneiros" (dream) and "phrenos" (mind). Ibogaine facilitates a sort of visionary waking dream experience that provides a conscious ‘mirror’ of the deeper levels of the psyche and may facilitate an awareness of the unconscious or subconscious processes that may be blocking ones’ personal development. This increased awareness may lead to a deeper understanding of self, one's motivation and outlook on life and lead towards an increased capacity for self-compassion, understanding, inspiration and deeply meaningful personal development. The Iboga Therapy House assists people interested in crafting their own unique setting for an explorative therapy session in a safe and therapeutic environment. To learn more about our program for psychotherapeutic exploration, click here. ************************************************** ************** Current Ibogaine ResearchIn Canada, Ibogaine is not the subject of any regulation. We understand however, that there is growing interest in the use of ibogaine and seek to contribute to the body of knowledge surrounding its potential uses in therapy. We are therefore currently developing a holistic programming model for ibogaine therapy by exploring safe and effective methods for its use and envision a time when ibogaine will be offered as a regulated natural health product used within specific therapeutic frameworks in Canada. We support the conduct of ethical research and the initiation of clinical trials to demonstrate its effectiveness as a potent healing modality and natural health product. To learn more about the research we are currently supporting, please see the ibogaine research page on the website for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies: www.maps.org/ibogaine MORE HELPFUL IBOGAINE LINKS http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/g...oid=oid%3A5355 http://ibogaine.mindvox.com/index.html?Media/OceanDrive01.html~mainFrame http://www.doraweiner.org/alexanderlotsof.html Add as much info to this thread as you would like. Re: Ultimate Ibogaine Thread
Swim will let swiy know how Iboga worked for him, when he cuts down his daily methadone script. The first Kratom order is in the post but swim won't be so naive to think he can swap his methadone/heroin addiction to kratom just yet. Then once he's sure about these new substances, he's gonna give the Ibogaine a try, if he still needs to. I.e. the kratom for methadone swap wasn't his cure from withdrawal. Swim's addiction recovery will be posted in my thread ''Addiction recovery stories'' and all relevant substances used to get clean.

Re: Ultimate Ibogaine Thread
Excellent job consolidating the material on this remarkable substance. SWIM was formerly not a very spiritual person, but now thinks that a truly magical one lives within tabernanthe iboga.
Crakk: define "fukk you up."

I've read/heard from other people online that ibogaine can be used recreationally. This thread says it can't. |

Re: Ultimate Ibogaine Thread
SWIM thinks it can be. A dose of 4-8 mg/kg will induce hallucinations, and the mild ataxia just makes going out pretty much impossible.
So if "recreational" is to mean "party drug," the answer is no. But if it's to mean "stay at home in bed and ponder existence and cool visuals," the answer is yes, it can be. As mentioned elsewhere, SWIM enjoyed his trip after the 1st-hour shakes subsided. |
